Forums - Gaming - Late to the Party - Cyberpunk 2077

Back last year, I purchased Cyberpunk 2077 on a Steam sale. But the first couple of times I tried to run it, I got an error message. I knew my system was able to run it, but I couldn't manage to make it work, so I gave up and forgot about it.

Tonight, I decided to try it again, and it miraculously worked first try. Maybe the updates on my driver I did a couple of weeks ago helped it. Anyway, I'm playing it on PC. 1080p, High settings, Ray Tracing + DLSS Balanced. What is... Quite better than I was expecting it to run.

Well, I played the first hour and a half of it. Guys, one thing I should note is that I don't like games GTA style. I tried almost all GTA games, and gave up a couple of missions later. Stealth is also not my cup of tea. But Cyberpunk 2077 always looked like something else. Not just the beautiful graphics and the futuristic setting, but the gameplay RPG style reminds me of Borderlands, what's a great thing to me.

I wasn't planning on playing it for one hour and a half straight, but I wanted to see the city in action, and people who played it know that you must do a couple of missions before getting access to the city.

So yeah, graphics are wonderful. The soundtrack and audio seems great too. Optmization is good enough, I wasn't expecting to run it with Ray Tracing on an RTX 3050 6GB, but here we are.

I'll play more tomorrow, or maybe later tonight, I don't know. I'm kinda skeptical, like I said, I'm not a fan of GTA-like games, or stealth games. But so far so good.

What are your opinions on this game? It had an awful reception at launch, but it looks like it made quite a comeback on current gen.

As someone who is typically lukewarm on most open world games, hates GTA, and isn't super great at RPGs, I absolutely loved this one.

Night City is such a rich and compelling world and the action is tight and satisfying enough that I had a blast in spite of it not being the sort of thing I usually like.

Great game.

I know. The level of detail is quite high, right? It really feels alive.

I absolutely love the neon lights, the big screens at buildings, the details of the rain, the sunlight, the puddles, reflections... Everything is beautiful.

At the beginning of the second mission (after waking up), I took an elevator to the streets, and I stopped to watch the TV at the ride. And the video wasn't just looping each 10 seconds, in fact, I spend almost a minute watching it. Very, very well made for something that doesn't even affect gameplay!

Never cared for GTA. A part of me will always remain in Night City. There were times I’d wander the streets every so often on foot and paid no mind to mission markers.

It's sitting in my library for years, still haven't played it.

According to my younger son who did, good as GTA-esque FPS, poor as RPG, with Phantom Liberty being much better than base game.

I watched the initial announcement trailer then went completely media blackout. Played it on a Series S on launch and didn’t experience a single issue, the only bug I’ve ever had was fixed with a reload. It’s my favourite game since Half Life 2 back on the OG Xbox. Easily the best performance by a female MC VA ever. Characters and VA in general is unmatched. OST, world design and immersion are second to none.

Ride The Chariot | ‘26 Completed

I tried it a year or two ago just to see how it would run on my aging PC. It ran surprisingly well even at 1440p medium or high settings, but... I knew I would not like the game itself. I really don't like how modern triple A games are so oversaturated visually and this is a good example of that, I don't simple dislike it, I hate it, but I realise that it's my problem. But then the eastern european gamedev oddities - they can't ever make a good story, they always make idiotic dialogues and situations - in this case you have to smuggle something into the city, with someone you don't know, without knowing if it would even work, with a high risk of being jailed or worse etc. it's just so stupid - am I the only one who notices these things or other people simply don't care? But that's not all - after the first night you have to take the elevator to the ground level, but I started wandering around and decided to take the stairs instead - nope, of course you can't do it in a 21st century triple A RPG game - the stairs are blocked for whatever stupid reason - that annoyed me so much that I quit and never returning to this slop again.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

It's good, not in my top 50 all time, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

@bold: OP, this is really, really true! Please tell me you picked Fem V, who also has the best romance option in the game!

On topic: OP, you are in for such a ride. Prepare yourself to get quite emotional, as this is probably one of the best "immersion experience" you will get as a videogame character. And best of all, you can play multiple runs and see what works best for you story wise, while also getting to test different builds (they all pretty much are OP by endgame, so do play very hard from the start; that's my only gripe with the game - without difficulty mods, it's too easy. If you play netrunner, almost trivial). The rest is pretty much perfection, and you can choose to play Phantom Liberty as soon as you get a call to go to Dogtown, or play 'vanilla' in a first run and see the original endings before starting the DLC. Up to you, but if you are already normally OP, with the DLC you get to be godlike very early on with the things you get access to there, so take that into account. And have fun!
