Forums - Gaming - Small details that are annoying on a console

What are some small details with a current or past console that annoys you?

And I mean really small things that rubs you the wrong way but really can’t be considered a dealbreaker.

For me a recent such thing is for the Switch 2. The old Switch pro controller is fully compatible and works flawlessly with the Switch 2 with one caveat: you can not wake it from sleep with the home button on the old pro controller (I will not retire my Splatoon 2 special edition pro controller!)

Another small thing are all consoles with optical drive that have an insertion slot instead of a disc tray. This was a plague when my kids where small and just learning to walk since small kids have a tendency to jam all kinds of crap into the slot.

Xbox 360 and PS3
-Lack a modern rest mode. You can set them to turn off after downloading games or updates, which is nice. Still it would be nice for them to consume less power.
PS3
-Slow trophy syncing. It's ungodly since I have hundreds of PS4 games and PS4, Vita, and obviously PS3 show up on your trophy list on PS3.
PS Vita
-Every time you power on Vita (from turned off) and have a Game Card inserted, it pops up for a few seconds and you can't bypass it.
PS4 and PS5
-No CD support
Xbox One
-Not as intuitive as PS4 and PS5 to go into rest mode.
Switch & Switch 2
-Only shows your most recent 20 games and usually goes increments of 5 hours.
Switch 2
-Switch Pro Controller not waking up the console (as you said)
-No YouTube

Maybe I'll think of more later.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

PS5: 116 million (was 105 million, then 115 million, then 122 million)

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

The way the PlayStation button works on PS5 is still as unintuitive as it was when I first used the system. Occasionally I still use it incorrectly despite mostly having got used to it.

Slow trophy syncing on PS3, as mentioned in the previous post, is a really good pick. Another one is slow loading of the game list in the trophies section. It's especially bad since if you open a game, then navigate back to the game list, you can't navigate to another game until the list has finished loading - which can take dozens of seconds or maybe even minutes - it's just terrible. I'm not sure if you can even do anything other than turn off the console at that point (besides waiting, of course).

Switch not showing your exact playtime, and only for recently played games, as mentioned.

PS4 store not having a proper wishlist feature.

Xbox One having such a sluggish UI/OS.

PS5 dualsense having such a short battery life.

PS5: why can't I see all my installed games on the scroll bar, game library sucks.

Series X: I don't want to log in with my secure MS password, I should never have linked my XBL profile :/

Switch: Where is the thing, it's not in its dock, where did you guys leave it, oh well I'll play something else.

PS4: 30 minutes to patch GT Sport, 30 minutes for a small patch and need 120 GB free?!

PS3: Love the UI but it can also be soo slow, SD card reader removed on newer models

WiiU: Stick drift on a tablet, now what

X360: UI looks an ugly mess when not connected to the internet, xbla games don't even have icons.

Wii: They removed the GC controller ports on newer models :/

When a video game console opts to include a light on the system. That little green bar on the bottom left corner of Switch 1/2, the whole light beam on PS5, the red/blue dot on Wii/Wii U, and so on. I’m highly sensative to little stimuli such as these, but luckily I always find a quick work around (i.e. I tape some black wire tape wherever there is light and continue on with my gaming. I do the same thing with controllers that have little lights).

Don't know if it's supposed to do this, but if I leave my PS4 in rest mode for too long it shuts itself down, then next time I turn it on it tells me off for not shutting it down properly, and it's like, hey you're the one who turned yourself off you stupid fucken thing.

Not being able to chat with your friends on Switch/Switch 2. So fucking dumb. Why create a friend system if you won't let us contact them at all?

PS: Yes, I know about the NSO app. That only allows for voice chat in like... 3 games? I made a friend while playing KH Melody of Memory. We played for hours against each other. I added them to my friend list in hopes of playing together again. They accepted. BUT WE CAN'T FUCKING COMMUNICATE IN ORDER TO FIND A TIME TO PLAY TOGETHER.

Seriously, I'm so mad at Nintendo for this.

The SNES is the greatest console of all time, but over 32 years of me owning it the bloody thing turned yellow
