I can guarantee you there wont be 8GB more RAM in the handheld. If there was ever plans for it to, I'm certain they've been scrapped. The PS6 handheld will have just enough RAM to play PS5 games. Sony will instruct devs to just make a PS5 game and port it over. It doesn't matter if it doesn't offer any benefit over the PS5. Sony will discontinue the PS5 and the new Playstation models will be the only ones available.

Xbox won't have a product at a mass market price so they're not a threat regardless of what they do, and the PS6 TV would still be leagues ahead of the Switch 2 technically so there really is nothing stopping them for doing this? Backlash for not being strong enough? Well, the backlash to the PS5 Pro price didn't hurt them at all, and actually only acted as a valuable free marketing campaign for Sony. People need to stop thinking they can hurt Sony with backlashes.

I think you're loosing track of the discussion.

If the PS6 lite is literally just the PS5 (and still without portability), doesn't have a ram advantage to properly take advantage of the ML capacities, why would the 100m who already have a PS5 buy it? If the existing userbase isn't interested in buying it, then the argument by the OP remains true.

1. Most PS5 owners will not upgrade to PS6 because it will be too expensive. (A cheap PS6 lite will not be considered an upgrade with your suggestion)
2. As a result PS6 will not get exclusives.

You mention PS5 Pro but its sales are nothing to brag about and wouldn't be able to support an ecosystem. They are solid for a Pro console but I don't it will match the 20% sell ratio of the PS4 Pro.

I'm not losing track. I'm saying that I don't think Sony cares about people upgrading from PS5 to the next Playstation. They've only just got people over to PS5 from PS4. I think they only care about having a product at a mass market price that people can buy if they want to buy a Playstation once the PS5 has been discontinued. PS5 is big, bulky, expensive to manufacture and ship. This is just to have something to replace the PS5 when they discontinue it because it'll be much cheaper to produce the Canis chipset in mini PS Vita TV like shell than the PS5. Costs are soaring and it's not about performance anymore. So i get back to my previous point. What's going to be the downside from doing this? Switch 2? Still much more powerful than Switch 2. Xbox? Xbox won't have product at mass market price. Backlash? Backlashes don't work. It's just the obvious and logical step forward. The Orion BOM has risen to about 960$. Sony will know they need a plan B because they literally cannot sell the Orion as a mass market product. Sony will win over the consumer by being the only one with a decently powerful console that runs GTA6 at a mass market price. That's all that matters going forward, not beating the PS5 in performance. PS5 is plenty performant enough.

If its not moving people on from PS5, than it's not moving the needle on exclusivity which is to the point of this thread. I feel like thats a whole other discussion which deserves its own topic.

It's tough to say.
I don't think PS5 is still going to get games in the 2040s, and if it does it won't be anything more than really small games.
If PS6 doesn't come out until 2029 or later, I'm struggling to picture Sony games on PS5 around 2031 and beyond.
Big Sony games will likely be on PC at some point again and probably won't be on PS5 after 2031 or so.
I think we'll get some big exclusives that might not go on PC for years or anywhere else and then if there is a PS7 there will be a cross-gen period with that.

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

Exactly. Next Mass maket Playstation model will only technically be a successor to PS5, but it won't actually beat it's performance so it's not a true successor. Op is right in his prediction

It's Sony. Last week Square-Enix said that FF6 remake would require 4-5 games, right? Who's behind this? Just be ready, the first PS6 State of Play we will see:Bloodborne 2 (exclusive, launch day), Elden Ring 2 (exclusive? temporary?),new God of War, new GT, Capcom games, Konami games, Bandai Namco,... whole Japan. Again: Be Ready!
