Because exclusives drive hardware adoption and Nintendo wants Switch 1 owners to upgrade to Switch 2.

That was over three years ago, the situation now with Switch 2 having been out for over a year is very different.

Crazy that Switch 2 is getting so many first party exclusives that it has the opposite problem of PS/Xbox at the beginning of the gen, people begged PS to stop crossgen while they beg Nintendo now to stop giving Switch 2 such a fast pace of exclusives.
