hey everybody. well, the topic of rolstoppable came up recently on the forums and it got me thinking after reading some of the comments, that there should be a thread where we can share all the greatest and funniest and best rol moments.

Rol was the backbone of the website for many, many years. That isn't to discount the rest of the cast around him throughout the many eras of vgchartz, but there were a few things that were different about Rol:

1) Rol was always right. well, almost always. there was maybe 1 time that he was ever wrong, and he was forced to wear that in his signature so that every time he posted, people could see that he was, in fact, wrong about something. for those who don't know, he did not correctly predict that GTA IV would outsell super smash bros brawl. He was wrong.

2) Rol had a wit unlike any other. you guys know what im talking about. he would routinely eviscerate the other side of the debate and he would do it with such wit. he would not only prove the other side wrong, but he would end up making them look downright silly. i learned early on never to take this guy head on. any time it felt like i might get into a fight with Rol, I just rolled over, played dead, and let him beat up on my poor lifeless body. i can speak from experience that is the most painless way to proceed if you find yourself in a Rol debate.

3) as others came and went, Rol was a constant, the longest constant there has been here on vgchartz. he is basically like the site's mascot. in fact, i think we should have some kind of formal annointing of rol as the head of the vgchartz hall of fame. i think itd be cool to have a hall of fame, go back through the history and nominate and vote on whoever had a big presence during some era of vgchartz. a hall of fame would be cool. hey, maybe we can also add a new badge. there could be a "rol badge" like whoever posts the most in a given calendar year wins the rol badge or something like that, im just spit balling ideas here.

vgchartz suffered a massive tragedy when it got hacked in, i think it was 2023 or something, but all of Rol's posts disappeared. we have been absolutely robbed and took for granted that all his great posts were here and assumed they wouldnt go anywhere. if i knew the site was going to get hacked, id have spent the tremendous labor to log every one of his ten thousand posts or whatever he was up to. i think this is all the more reason we need an appreciation thread because we can recall stuff and log it here while the memories are still somewhat fresh.

anyway, i dont want to ramble on too much. I have my own stories to share, but I will do it as they occur to me down below. I would encourage anybody who has any funny memory or anything to share about something he did or said to come by this thread and we can keep it going to keep his memory alive.

One of my greatest accomplishments on VGChartz was when Rol made a thread about how much of a Nintendo fanboy different users were, and his comment on me was something like "Likes Nintendo games almost as much as making overcomplicated charts"

I hope hes ok, but lets not make him out to be some kind of angel. He could be stubborn. Pretty much acted like he knew better than anyone else and would make other users feel frustrated or angry just talking to him. He was an actual Nintendo fanboy. He was just a well spoken one. They could never do anything wrong in his mind and if anyone criticized them, he would sometimes be unpleasant and condescending in his response.

Dont mean to trash him or anything, but lets not put him on a pedestal just because you miss him.

well i guess thats what i liked about him so much. he represented my ideas in a white collar kind of way. in a way i never could. and like i said, if you get into a rol fight, its best to just roll over and die because there is no winning, ive already acknowledged this. but he should still be the first inductee into the vgchartz hall of fame, its hard to argue against it.

I do want to share one of my favorite rol memories though. when i first joined this site i noticed he was quite the hot shot, so i would do things to antagonize him or try to engage him in some way. One of the things I used to do was to copy his threads, basically either word for word or id copy something about it. i know, i know, its dumb. but the end result was always amusing. Rol always had funny responses to shit. it was kind of a "one sided rivalry" that he couldnt ignore.

eventually, he sent me this message with the subject "stop copying my threads" and this was the message he sent:

from RolStoppable on 23 May 2009
Because now you'll post one of them in the first place. That's an idea I was carrying around for quite some time now, but you got a three week ban last month and I kinda forgot about sending you a thread after that. Anyway, it's your decision if you are going to post it. You have quite a long moderation history, so I tried to keep it in the safe zone for you. Only people who hate Nintendo and don't know much about their games should fall for it (so you will get high fives from them), you shouldn't get flamed by Nintendo fans. The post will end with a disclaimer, so you shouldn't get trouble with any of the mods. At least that's what I hope. The thread isn't that great, but who knows, maybe it's going to be good. It's hard to predict how these things develop.

Instructions:

1. The entire text is written to fit your posting style (well, I tried), meaning no capital letters and apostrophes and I hope it sounds angry enough. You can copypaste the entire thing, feel free to fill in a few additional swearwords if you think they are fitting, but don't add as many as into your Gamestop rant. Although I think I used enough of them already.

2. Post it in "Nintendo Discussion".

3. After posting it, immediately check the thread to see if there are any hotlinks in the original post. That's because the last time someone else posted a thread for me, there were some hotlinks to the entire private message I sent that person. Make sure that you don't leave evidence like that in the thread and remove all hotlinks in case they appear.

4. If you don't want to post this thread, just say so. Same if you think that some parts need to be changed a little bit.

Thread title: if only nintendo wouldnt make the same games over and over again

i have been a big nintendo fan in the past, just take a look at my awesome collection of snes games. i have owned every nintendo system including the wii, but theres something that bothers me about nintendo. they always make the same fucking games each generation!

1. mario games

why is it that princess peach gets kidnapped by bowser in every single fucking mario game? okay, she doesnt get kidnapped in mario kart and all those sports spinoffs, but those games dont have a story unlike the platformers and rpgs. how about changing things up a bit, like making peach the final boss in a mario game? now that would kick ass.

2. zelda games

link has to save princess zelda from the evil ganon or ganondorf like he is called in latter games. as a kid i didnt notice it, but that somehow sounds like a mario game story. nintendo is really fucking innovative! it would be nice to see link going on his own journey for once, without that stupid princess getting in the way.

3. metroid games

finally a series in which you dont have to save a fucking princess all the time, but thats probably because the main character is a woman. still, she has that varia suit in every game and you collect almost always the same items and upgrades to fight those nasty metroids. for once, nintendo should give this basic formula a twist, like making samus almost die at the beginning of a game and the only way she is able to survive is to remove that fucking varia suit she has been using for so long. i am sick of always seeing the same stuff.

these are just three and the most popular examples i could think of, but there are more. if only nintendo wouldnt make the same fucking games over and over again, i could enjoy their games again, like in the glorious snes days when those games felt still fresh and new, because they werent so overdone. had nintendo used some different ideas in their games like the ones i suggested above at least once, this entire rant would be null and void. but alas, nintendo is all about the money and they milk their franchises for all their worth. greedy bastards.

i couldnt ignore a directive from Rol, so i had to oblige, and this was the resulting thread:

angrypoolman, you are more than likely a alternative account for Rol.
Perhaps something to allow you to show a different angle of the "zealot" fanboy inside you.
Wrost case, you don't realise that you and RolStoppable are one and the same.

lol, i'm drunk!!

That was a good thread. I wonder if it survived the hack
