Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Series Price increasing August 1st. $800 Series X.

The part about them expecting storage and memory to be twice as expensive as it is currently by late next year is a huge ouch so I guess things are gonna keep getting worse for a while before they start getting better so unless someone is confident they won't be buying new hardware for the next 2-3 years then they should get on that ASAP.

Xbox Series sales will of course be basically dead after this and it'll sell almost nothing next year though the bigger concern is if Sony does another big price increase early next year after the GTA 6 boost is over then the PS5 sales that year will be really poor and the Pro in particular would die cause it'd probably be over 1k.

Even that though is nothing compared to the potential impact on the Switch 2. Its sales have recently slowed down heavily in Japan so another increase there would be really bad for its long term sales especially if sales take a big hit in the west next year. A very strong first party lineup would only do so much if the price gets too high which is why they're the least likely to do a significant one next year since right now they need to build up a large install base though if market conditions get bad enough they'd be forced to do it eventually.

Had it in the wings waiting till Steam Machine prices dropped.

Why do people think its going to get better? China is build a massive army to invade taiwan the biggest producers of chips, its only going to get worse and even if somehow china doesnt start ww3, ai isnt going away, this is only the beginning.

Microsoft directly caused this spending hundred of billions on AI bullshit.

Funny that Xbox current boss is a part of the big reason that Xbox current boss work is so hard now.

Going from being the AI boss to the videogames boss inside Microsoft where the former hurts the later so much and having to deal with it herself must be such a strange feeling for her, lol.

I'm quite thankful that I've mostly been playing retro games anyway recently.

A handheld like the Anbernic RG40XXV letting you play the whole GBA/SNES/PS1 libraries is enough to keep busy for a long time on a low budget, or an RG35XX Plus for only $50.

Lol I haven't touched my Series X in a year and a half I think. Time to sell it!

Wait a while and you can sell it for more.

Wait GTA VI launch.

When GTA comes out, it’ll be possible to sell a used Xbox Series X/S at a profit! I wouldn't be surprised if you could sell a Series X in good condition for $600!

Slightly used Series X Halo Infinite edition, paid $550 at launch. Can easily sell that at a profit with GTA 6 launch!

It sucks. The price increasing works for both side (consumer and company), so they are just preparing the "streaming path" in the future to control everything.
