Forums - Nintendo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches 5th of November

Yeah, updated design, from my POV, means "OoT as Nintendo might have made it in 2026 if they had modern technology and enough development time, while still retaining most of original game structure, progression, world layout and overall atmosphere".

Looking forward to new renditions of iconic Zelda music.

Perhaps they'll add an optional dungeon like they did with the colour dungeon in Link's Awakening DX. Not that the original was lacking in dungeons.

It'd be cool to see them flesh out the Ice Cavern into a fully fledged dungeon, as I believe it was intended to be during development before being cut down to its current form. I remember really liking this section but wishing there was more to it.

Wasn't the Spirit Temple meant to be a Light Temple? It had a lot of light reflecting puzzles.

I don’t think Star Fox being a 1:1 remake means anything regarding OoT. Star Fox is a rail shooter which is a niche genre that hasn’t really changed since the 90s.

Zelda is an action/adventure game that was a major stepping stone towards the modern open-world level design that so many games use now and the genre has moved forward a lot since the 90s.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The big question - will they actually include the main Zelda theme this time?

From what little was seen in the trailer Link having the Triforce embedded in his hand as a child does at least point towards a few major changes of the story. I do not think we are looking at a 1:1 remake. My guess is more akin to the RE remakes. Keep general feel and scoop but update environments and gameplay.

If this is another reskin with few quality of life updates to the game similar to the 3DS version I don't think it would be presented in any higher regard than the HD remakes of Wind Waker, Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. As it is it seems to be Nintendo's big holiday release.

Yeah, I think story changes will come that will incorporate lore that ties in and aligns with later games in the series. 1996 Nintendo/Miyamoto didn't care about the Zelda timeline at all, whereas 2026 Nintendo puts a little more care into tying everything together.

Zelda is one of the few franchises where Nintendo actually cared about lore.

Man the Fire Temple and the Volvagia fight could go so freaking hard in these graphics.

Ocarina is such a richly atmospheric game too which could really benefit from advances in lighting and detail.

Yeah...and if small dev like Alkimia can pull something like this of for a niche game, I'm sure Nintendo will go all out for OoT remake:
