I actually think it looks very much in keeping with Xenoblade 3 in terms of style, just obviously amped up with more detail and fidelity.

Some new details:

- Yoko Shimamura is doing the music; her prior credits include the 1st Xenoblade Chronicles, Super Mario RPG, and Kingdom Hearts

- The character designers are the same ones who did Xenoblade Chronicles 3

If she is the leading composer, that's a big shift from the other Xenoblade games. Until now, Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger) was the one in charge for the three numbered Xenoblade games and Shimomura only composed like a couple of songs for the first one (not to downplay her: she composed the main theme, some custcene music and a few are themes... and all of them are glorious).

So, she's not only returning after 15 years of absence in the series, she's also replacing Mitsuda and taking the lead on the newest entry. That's huge news.

It needs to be said, but the info for the composers was badly AI translated.

So no Yoko Shimomura isn't part of the composers. Yasunori Mitsuda is at it again with the lead composer role.

Anywoo, as for my impressions of the reveal,

I was completely taken by surprise by the first images because I didn't hear the moment Koizumi referenced "a new game coming" 😂
Coming from the promises of something new after the Trilogy was over. The different stylings and the changing of sets (With an academy/school no less) threw me for a lil spin until we saw some shots of them going through the fields which definitely screamed Xenoblade to me.

The inverted planet with the Six suns, the importance/omnipotence of Anima in this world are the most intriguing parts to latch into so far.

Just seeing the density in the new environments tells me they really worked on their new rendering this time around which will benefit more seamless traversal.

Funny thing, I don't think the school setting is meant to stay really long. That's not the way a series like Xenoblade operates usually. This is likely a way for them to settle the player into a tutorialization of its mechanics and lore. After that back to globe trotting it'll be

The living inside a sphere is very Shin Megami Tensei III and V. They do that very setting as well. Terranigma did something similar on SNES. Not a common setting but not a new one. It is a cool one. I saw things in the world and characters from Xenoblade 2 and X. Pneuma's sword in the main characters weapon as an icon. The rings of oblivia. There also looks like a continent that looked similar to Mira from Xenoblade X. What is interesting to me is they are all elf like. So not the mixed races of 3. It is clear like before this will tie into previous games in some way. Likely after the events of 3 for those who finished. I also don't want to rule out the direct Xenosaga ties in the DLC for 3.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I absolutely love the Xenoblade series. 1, 2, and 3 are some of my favorite video games. X was good but had a lot of flaws that took away from the experience (have not tried the Switch version).

Watching this trailer, I'm not sure what to think. Initially watching I was wondering if it was a cross over with Fire Emblem. The seemly school setting does not excite me either, kind of feels like a overused trope. I'm not in love with the new art style, looked generic and not to Switch 2 standards. Kind of sad that the Chronicles series is ending since I loved it so much. I am not impressed by what this trailer showed, it doesn't immediately catch you like 3's trailer. I think showing this before they had English VA was probably a mistake, really took away some of effect of the trailer which more appeared to be more cinematic reveal. I won't dwell on the negatives too much, as I know the Xenoblade team has made so many bangers so far. I'm not sold yet, but I trust when we see more next year, they'll show me the hook.

Graphically it does have a bit of a "started development on Switch 1" feeling to it similar to the likes of MK World, DK Bananza, Hyrule Warriors, etc which is a little bit disappointing given Monolith's track record of technical ambition.

I'm sure they'll still manage to craft a compelling adventure regardless; even with their tech limitations, prior Xenoblade entries really shone on Wii and Switch thanks to interesting worlds, cool stories, sublime music and deep gameplay.
