Forums - Microsoft - Gears Of War E-Day - Pulls PS5 launch. (rumor confirmed by CEO)

Xbox can only be saved with true exclusivity (no Steam/EGS) and big titles like COD. This won't move the needle.

82% of console sales of Call of Duty are on Playstation.
How much in total sales % PC makes up, I have no idea.

But lets assume if you drop PS and PC, you lose like 90% of the sales Call of Duty does.
Maybe slightly less, if you can convince PC and PS5 players, to buy a Xbox for Call of duty.

How much money lost is that? They spent alot to get Call of Duty.... they don't want to kill the cash cow, after just buying it.

"Data from industry tracker Circana noted that PlayStation captured 82% of all Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 total console dollar sales during its launch window."

Apparently by active player base, Call of Duty has more than double, that of Xbox's on PlayStation.
That is despite it being on game pass.

Yeah if they wish to make their platform relevant in the long term, they're gonna need to take risks and have their software sales decline to a fraction in the short to medium term. But it's the only way save Xbox regardless. Gears going console exclusive isn't gonna do anything.

We know where Phil Spencer was on that question.

He was 100% for, going full Publisher, damn the hardware.
Actions speak louder than words.

Where Asha Sharma stands, is currently not known.... she doesn't seem like, to have committed to one or the other yet.
She knows xbox fans, think exclusives are important for console hardware (and to be fair, the proof is in the pudding).
So far she has taken 2 games and made them exclusive. She also made a few announced games for PlayStation, when she didn't have too.
It's hard to tell if shes really for one or the other, so far.  I think she is testing the water.... and seeing if she "see's" what Phil Spencer saw.
Money talks.... she might years down the line, come to the same conclusion Phil did, depending on how the next gen turns out.

Phil gave up, trying to push hardware.
He was like "I cannot do both", I'll buy some more studios and convert xbox to a publisher instead, of a platform holder.

So hyped! Most wanted game coming out

Yep, my thoughts entirely. If Microsoft is looking to take a risk, then they need to go all in. Restoring faith and value into the XBOX brand demands a return to true exclusivity, not this half-measure XBOX/PC nonsense.

It looked good.

My top picks from the showcase were:

Magician A devil's deal
Gears E-day
Vivarium
Spyro

I feel like this would have done well on PlayStation as well.

The slide and limb damage is what me and my friend been suggesting they do for 3 years now lol. Great to see. I may never get VanQuish 2 but I can still get my slide in other TPS games abd I may not get Binary Domain 2 but can get the limb damage in Gears finally.

This thread is so weird.
Literally fantasizing about MS taking COD full exclusive. As if there isn´t regulatory orders barring that.
I don´t even know why that would be seen as desirable even if it was possible.
OK... sabotage 90% of the player base for big games, so you can somehow blackmail some of them to buy a Xbox console.
Is that supposed to give off confidence in your product?
I can get how games that were always exclusive could continue to be.
But if the salvation of Xbox somehow hinges on stealing what was long fully 3rd party... maybe Xbox just sucks?
And then people talk about this like it is achieving some great success...
It is about destroying 90% of the value of the business, and they can´t even honestly say that out loud.

Seems futile. Xbox Series is dead. Helix is not a mainstream device. They're throwing away money to push a hardware division that has basically no prospect of success. With the current price situation it's also the worst possible time to go back to a hardware focus.

If a return to good console hardware sales is their aim, then good luck to them, they'll need it.

In 2 years time they will change their tune and no one will blink an eye. I respect at least that they want to give Xbox one last push before fully converting to a publisher/PC box
