Damn, the sales numbers Switch 2 had during May in Japan are very similar to the sales numbers they had during December, so the price increase announcement basically led to a second holiday month for Switch 2 in Japan from a sales perspective.

Insane sales, next week is going to be interesting to see. They could have sold more this week than they will the next 6+ weeks combined lol.

The fact that they sold almost as many Switch 2 consoles last week in Japan as PS5 has sold all year is crazy.

Crazy strong sales for Switch 2. People rushing out to buy one before the price increase.

Did Switch 2 cannibalize Switch 1 this week? Crazy drop

Thought maybe the Switch 1 price changed earlier than Switch 2, but no price rise for that is supposed to be the week after this too.

PS5 has had a 11 % market share in Japan year to date. I guess you would need to go back to the Famicom years for 1 company to have as much of a market share in console sales as Nintendo have now in Japan.

I didn't think the Switch 2 would be even higher this month but man that price increase caused a absolute ton of panic buying. Its baseline going forward might end up only being decent in say the 25-35k range but for this year that's not a big deal after such a strong first 5 months and it having a week where it has 8 of the top 10 software before it turns a year old is really quite impressive. PS5 is the same as usual lately being consistently up YoY though the Switch 1 collapsed a week earlier than expected for whatever reason. This could mean its new baseline is even lower than 9k so even though recent history shows you can never fully count out the Switch over there this is looking like it'll finally be it for the console selling decently in Japan.
