On the one hand it is beautiful, but I'm getting tired of all these remakes and remasters, and Legends didn't exactly need one.

Given the amount of effort put into it, I can't quite call it a cash grab, but it does feel unnecessary.

Whilst I do agree with you, Legends is a tad old and maybe they want to reboot the series with this. These games also appeal to a younger audience. In this way it's similar to Starfox 64 getting another reboot/remake. Hopefully this time a sequel will follow it up though for both. Otherwise it is kind a pointless, yes

2013 doesn't register as "old" in my brain, but maybe that could be cos I myself am getting old.

I wish Starfox had been an all new game too, though in that case it was at least a 29 year old game that was very technically aged, whereas I feel like Legends still holds up well today thanks to its simple style and gameplay.

I do like the new look though, and if they do follow this up with a new game in this style (which this is hopefully a prelude to) I'd bite for sure.

Pretty happy with the price.

Edit

Never mind.  Pass for me.  Requires Ubi account on Steam, which is a deal breaker.  Until Ubi simply releases their games as is, I will not give them my money.

Yeah but Starfox 64 also got remade for Wii U and for 3DS, the Wii U one looks pretty decent. So it's also not that old. But yes thanks to the artstyle and plenty of ports it isn't difficult to play Rayman Legends on modern hardware. Origins is a tad more difficult though. Anyways let's hope both IP's get a follow up after this release.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Probably not? It's hard to say. The steam description only specifies local, but they've also given it the "crossplatform multiplayer" feature tag so uh....

I would assume it does not for now.

What's crazy is that all the remakes I reflect most fondly upon were released within a decade or so of the OG: Wind Waker HD (2003 v. 2013), Mario 64 DS (1996 v. 2004), Ocarina of Time 3D (1998 v. 2011), Majora's Mask 3D (2000 v. 2015).

...though to address the obvious: graphics aren't evolving quite like they used to. We've hit a point of highly diminished returns in comparison to the past. Not to say the tech behind gaming isn't getting better and better (honestly I quite prefer the jump from games running at 30fps 720p to 60/120fps 4k over the jump from 32-bit to 64-bit, or 64-bit to GCN), but it's getting better in less blatant ways.

Starfox Zero was more of a reboot/reimagining than a remake, it followed the same basic premise but the levels were totally different and the core gameplay was fundamentally changed due to the dual screen gimmick. It's also kinda bad, IMO anyway.

One could argue Rayman is also blurring the line between remake and reimagining with all the new stuff, to be fair, so for me it just comes down to Legends still holding up really well and thus feeling less in need of one.
