Forums - Gaming - Biggest Surprise In The Gaming Industry Over The Past Decade?

Concord bombing as hard as it did has to be up there. It's a joke now but it really was insane to see a game with that much backing behind it have sales so miniscule that it was shut down in just two weeks. I knew it was not gonna do well but I thought it would've lasted a few months at the very least.

Consoles not only not going down in price but getting more expensive.

Nintendo’s rebound from WiiU.

Expedition 33 being a better JRPG than any JRPG since like… PSone days.

Emulation. Loads upon loads of reasons. But I find myself using emulation more than buying new games. Native PC support, 4k Texture packs, Mame support continues to improve, Bloodborne, etc.

Man, it's been quite a while since I last used MAME (close to 20 years). Where do you suggest I go to update myself in the matter? Also, what are some other emulators you recommend, with additional setup (accompanying software such as boosters for the 4090 and so)?

I use a lot of retroarch, for MAME final burn neo seems to work with the most games.  Retro seems to work with most everything, I use it for 99% of emulation, plenty of cores and texture pack support.

I also use a specific Dusk emulation for Twilight.  N64 Recomp is excellent, but limited selection.  I also like Cemu.  For ps2 use PCSX2, works amazing.

The big difference for me is texture packs.  Very readily available and works incredibly well.  Henriko and Evil Games for texture packs.

Thanks for the detailed recommendations! I’m pretty new to emulation, so this helps a lot. I’ll start looking into RetroArch and PCSX2 first.

Retroarch is quite simple.  Works great with NES, SNES, Gamecube, Genesis and Dreamcast.  As in works straight up.  Sega CD, Saturn, etc all work, but is harder require Bios, which isn't hard.  I would start with the simple stuff, get your feet wet.  Then move onto the harder stuff, like Bios required and texture packs.  Just DM me if I can help.

It will be that Break In is actually a different game from Fairgames lol

But I would say the Switch, I personally didn't think it would reach the heights that it did after the WiiU, but good for Nintendo.

Switch selling 150+ million systems surprised me a lot. I didn't necessarily think it would flop, but 50-80 million systems sold was what I would have guessed in a good case scenario.
The insane price increase in consoles was unexpected, and a very bad surprise.
Sony and Microsoft's constantly changing strategies when it comes to exclusives have been surprising and just overall weird. Microsoft in particular seem to not know what they want to do in that regard, their messaging has been in all kinds of directions. I genuinely don't understand their strategy, buying so many studios, just to become the biggest third party publisher doesn't make sense to me.

To piggy-back on Chrkeller’s comment: If there’s anything you need help setting up, I am also accessible via PM. Though response time could vary depending on time of day.
