Forums - Sony - Sony now requires online check in for purchased PSN games

So, a non story, the boogeyman isn't stealing our digital games.

Yeah this is what I’ve been saying for the past 24 hours. But people online have a knee-jerk reaction whenever they hear “disable license” and “DRM check”. It’s nothing more than an small measure to combat bad actors who take advantage of an exploit which extends the refund period for digital product.

So, Sony is doing something anti-consumer to fight against piracy...

Oh boy, imagine if it was Nintendo doing it, 24/7 chants of "Nintendo hate their fans" instead of "oh hey guys, let's just wait, maybe it's just a bug teehee".

I don't get how a minor anti-piracy thing that nobody would ever notice is anti-consumer.

Let me know when Sony locks music behind an amiibo, has limited release of digital games and refuses to drop software prices.

Remember all the doom and gloom about Nintendo "bricking your console" if you use it in "ways they don't like"? Remember all the discourse about "you don't own your Switch 2"? This is literally the same thing.

How is this turning about Nintendo?

It's about double standards, the internet's #1 favorite thing.

What double standards? People have been bashing Sony a lot, me included, until we get an answer.

People are also trying to find for themselves the reason until then.

Buddy you’re talking to the wrong guy about this lol. I’m prolly the biggest shill for Nintendo on this site.

That said, while I am a shill, I am also principled. It comes off as a tad-bit “fanboyish” to justify your critique against Sony by pointing out that Nintendo would be treated far harshly.

If you don’t like how Nintendo is treated, then why treat Sony in the way which upsets you? Doesn’t compute.

Ok, so can we agree this 30 days thing is bad no matter what their justification is? It's literally boiling frog moment at best.
