The Switch needs to sell 19.32k units on avarage to reach 1 million units sold at the end of the year

That is very doable. Especially with TL:LtD and Rhythm Heaven — two major JP titles — dropping this year.

Resident Evil Requiem For Switch 2 is back to the charts lol

SteamMyAnimeList and Twitter - PSN: Gustavo_Valim - Switch FC: 6390-8693-0129 (=^・ω・^=)

Decent hold for Switch 2 and Pokopia. I can see this game selling well for the rest of S2's life. Hopefully it's enough to hold the weekly base above 50k until the summer games arrive.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

A few evergreens are up from last week while Pokopia held well.

Hardware down almost across the board from last week except for XBS... for what that's worth.

Man, that Japan only model is the only thing keeping PS5 afloat over there.

Without it, it'd probably be selling sub-5k and dangerously close the Xbox levels. Holy Hell, Sony REALLY dropped the ball over there. That's what happens when you give the Japanese audience the shaft in favor of the Western audience for nearly 2 decades.

Especially while Nintendo doubled down on the Japanese audience and now, they rule the market with an iron fist. They damn near run a monopoly over there.

I dislike this narrative because Nintendo doubled down on what Nintendo do and what they do well. It's not Japan vs West. Mario, Zelda and animal crossing didn't change gears to become more Japanese lol

Playstation was never famous for its japanese output outside of GT which remains its biggest franchise. Sony equally doubled down on what they do well and what they are known for. The games that made them successful are mostly third party IPs like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, Resident Evil, Tekken, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter etc. And that's been their real issue.

I also don't think this can apply beyond the PS5?

The PS4 had over 5 titles released by Japan studios Bloodborne, Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian, Knack 1 and 2, Astrobot Rescue Mission, Shadow of the Collosus remake... They just weren't commercial big outside of Bloodborne.

You can maybe argue the PS3 but only on the basis on the initial hardware price (but that was globally an issue), output wise it was even higher than the PS4. All the meanwhile Playstation were having huge success with the PSP in Japan. The notion that Sony actively gave the market the middle finger doesn't add up until we get to the PS5 where they deprioritised stock for the first year and gave up on their japanese studios instead of repurposing them but again the japanese studios had nothing to do with their success in Japan.

Donkey Kong Bananza back on the Famitsu charts and getting close to 500k sales.

Will be interesting to see if Tomodachi Life leads to some sales increase for both Switch 1 and Switch 2, or if it will just impact Switch 1.

Sony is keeping a low-price model in Japan that western markets only dream to have

The narrative Sony shafted Japan is false. Sony tried, but Japan is the one that simply stopped caring for Sony and its games

If the rumours are true, Sony is trying to develop a new portable, this is an obvious wave to Japanese market

Sony simply doesn't have the right console, neither the right games. You can even call Sony incompetent, which is true to varying degrees

But to say they didn't try to cater Japanese market is bogus. The only market more pampered by Sony than Japan is the USA, and even USA is soon getting shafted now Xbox pretty much died

I only wish Sony put 20% of the effort they put in Japan in LATAM. At this point we are already buying more consoles and games than Japan anyway
