Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Week 09, 2026 (Feb 23 - Mar 01)

Lol at the people that think this is bad result for RE: Requiem on switch 2. This is actually a pretty good one and one that indicates that in a couple years this kind of releases will have their strongest sales on Nintendo platforms. This is clearly the reason why 3rd party developers don't want to make exclusives for Playstation anymore.

There is also only a few million PS5 in Japan. If I had to guess 5,5 to 6 million is the right number of PS5 systems in the actual hands of consumers. The rest was sold to scalpers and resellers

There are 7mil PS5 units sold in JP. All scalpers have likely sold their inventory to genuine consumers given that it’s been 3 years since the shortage ended.

The scalpers were concentrated in the first years yes. It was the time where PS5 was sold but with no axtualy reflection on software chart. 1 million out of 7 million is what I estimate that went abroad. Remember PS5 was not instantly released in some Asian markets, imports from Japan are the norm

Resident Evil was never exclusive. Not even during PS2 days. Capcom always worked with all console makers, even the dead Dreamcast got its own Resident Evil

I'd day the numbers are average to bad even for PS5, since this is an AAA release with huge budget. It's a good thing RE is very popular overseas because otherwise this would be a big flop

So, Switch 2 Requiem sold a quarter of the PS5 version's numbers for opening week. Not terrible, but I was hoping for a bit more from the Switch 2 version. Maybe positive word of mouth will help its legs a little since Switch 2 is the hot system and Requiem is so good on it but we'll see.

For Switch1, it's OLED and Lite. Did they discontinue OG Switch already in Japan? Take it of the shelves?

Meanwhile Tales is outselling the PS version but I guess also not fair considering it has been released on PS4 a long long time ago.

That’s pretty much what I was expecting in terms of the sales ratio for RE:Requiem.
I said last week that the RE fanbase is almost entirely on PS and PC. There last time a mainline RE game launched on a Nintendo platform ‘Day One’ was Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube.

That was 21 years ago.
It’s going to take time and effort for that audience to start showing up on Nintendo and/or for Nintendo fans to take a shine towards Resident Evil. But this is a good first step in that direction.

I mean the reason why Dragon Quest quickly sold more on Switch 2 in Japan than PS5 is because Nintendo platforms have more fans of Dragon Quest in Japan, while the opposite is true for Resident Evil. Which platforms have the most fans of a particular IP will for most games be a bigger factor when it comes to launch week sales than just install base size, because most games at launch are just sold to core fans of those IP.

Resident Evil FW Comparison:

  • Resident Evil 6 (PS3+X360) - 672,411
  • Resident Evil 5 (PS3+X360) - 400,852
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake (PS4) - 265,324
  • Resident Evil 7 (PS4) - 231,188
  • Resident Evil Requiem (PS5+NS2) - 194,166
  • Resident Evil 3 Remake (PS4) - 189,490
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake (PS4+PS5) - 175,033
  • Resident Evil Village (PS4+PS5) - 149,884

Requiem's FW was roughly standard for the current era of Resident Evil, but I included the PS360 duo to show how much the series has declined.
