Almost 9 years ago, BOTW was released, widely considered to be one of Nintendo's finest games ever. In those years since, which do you think is their best game, and what's your reasoning for why it's the best?

Super Mario Odyssey, way better than BOTW imo. There's not many things I can point to in odyssey that need improving.

Dread. I didn't think they could make a Metroid side scroller to surpass Super, but Dread did it for me. I replayed it recently, and it's even better than I remembered it.

It's a tie between Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Metroid Dread.

Out of the one's I've played, Animal Crossing and SMB Wonder. Animal Crossing really gave the family something to do during COVID, and I thought Wonder was the best 2D Mario I've played since SMW... and I'm a die-hard Mario vet.

Throwing my chip on ACNH, for videogames, that one more or less carried family and friends through the Coronavirus pandemic. And given the tremendous sales and the community in that year, it was culturally significant.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think Nintendo as a whole has been getting a lot worse since BotW, in my opinion they took the wrong lessons from that game's success and started shoehorning aspects of it in games where they don't fit. Even TotK went farther in a direction that made it far less impactful than BotW for me.

The most obvious and major exception to this in the Switch era, for me, is Metroid Dread. That game stuck to its guns and felt every bit like a real Metroid game, without being repetitive or derivative of previous entries, and pushed the series forward in terms of gameplay, controls, presentation and storytelling.

How could you leave out Donkey Kong Bananza?

Shit, I knew I was forgetting something.

Added it to the poll.

Okay so technically I would probably say Smash Bros. Ultimate, but at the same time even though it is among my favorite games I don't think it fully lived up to the title "Ultimate", it has the best core gameplay of the series and needless to say the biggest roster but gets a few smaller things wrong, so my initial thought was actually Tears of the Kingdom because I enjoyed that game more unconditionally (even though it definitely also has flaws) and it's my favorite entry in its series unlike Ultimate.

But yeah it's definitely a two horse race for me, but if I could only play one of them going forward it would have to be Ultimate.
