Almost surely the Switch 2. It could sell over 5m in Japan alone this year considering it's not even fully fulfilling demand there yet so that would be a gap of over 4m the PS5 would have to make up elsewhere and Europe could make up a lot but not enough. My high end expectation for the PS5 is 16m and my low end one for the Switch 2 is 17m so I expect a gap of about 2-3m between the two. GTA 6 is huge but it's not gonna prevent the PS5 from declining this year, just significantly soften the decline due to giving the PS5 a really strong holiday.

^ basically this.

PS5 around 16m
Switch 2 ~17-18m.
Xbox Series ~2m.

I think it more likely the Switch takes 2026, even with GTA,SAROS,Wolverine this year for PS5.

Is it expected that Saros will move more than a handful of PS5’s? If CoD drops last gen consoles this year, that will be more of a system seller, even if most of the CoD audience has already shifted to PS5.

Probably not to be honest.... but it does look like it will be a popular title... Its a big title.
Will it move units? I have no idea (I suspect it won't effect things to much, but will help keep PS5 in the new cycle ect, for abit).

The Switch 2 was the best selling system in 2025?

PS5 sold through ~17,4m in 2025.
Switch 2 sold through ~15.5m in 2025 (shipped like ~17m).

So this year, the PS5 sold more, but only because the Switch 2, launched in like early June.

Just googled it :P
I'm super lazy.... I could go back and add up all the totals from months here, but.... yeah lazy atm.

I knew the VGChartz has the PS5 ahead, that's why I asked where his number comes from, in case there was other data to go for.

Saros is not likely to make big numbers, unless it reviews above 90 and people start talking. It will, at best, do small numbers like Metroid.

I personally think 5m-10m sales is very doable for it. Maybe I'm just way off base here.
I also think it will get like in the 85+ range from critics.

I don't know if we ever got numbers for Returnal, but I would guess it selling 5M would be a massive win.

2M is more in line with I think personally, so Saros should be doing similar numbers, maybe a bit more like 3M as it now has some fans.

Yeah Returnal and Saros are probably in the 2-3 million league. I respect that Sony still makes games like these.

And it looks like Saros has improved on everything about Returnal, it looks to be both more approachable and easier keep progress, and at the same time gives more options on how to tackle challenge in the way you want it.

The last trailer in the SoP showed we can customize many forms of challenges while still having to keep a balanced experience, it sounds great, you focus on a strong point you have and have more fun, or you focus on a week point you have to improve or challenge yourself.

It seems like those games are not nearly as expensive as the usual Sony first party, but I'm also glad a game selling moderate ammounts like Returnal and Astro Bot can keep up being released this days were most games either become massive hits or are canned.

Per the insomniac leak it shipped 1m by Feb 2022. With the years after and the PC release it's probably 2m+ so yeah 2-3m is probably about right..

Saros should do a bit better as it's had stronger marketing and a much larger install base of PS5's. I think 5m is possible. There were only around 8m PS5's sold when Returnal launched.

I won't hold expectations of 5M, if it crosses that, cool, but if it sells around 3M that is a good result IMO, and I hope they are not betting on way more to the point of it being seen as a failure if it doesn't greatly outperforms 3M.

It is getting the full blown Sony AAA price here, so I hope they are not expecting a 8M+ hit. I won't be getting it now, Returnal is still one of the cheapest games I got physically on the PS5, so I'll be waiting for a huge price drop.

Saros official price here is R$ 400, I already got the chance to get it for R$ 300, but I would consider paying R$ 300 only for the likes of God of War or so, I got Returnal for R$ 90 back then, so yeah, I'm waiting for it to fall into the price range I get most PS5 games I'm mildly interested into, around R$ 130-180.

Hope some people here can give us some impressions early on.
