Should they remake Genesis Sonic games in 3D?

Yes 2 22.22%

No 6 66.67%

Some, but not others 1 11.11%

Total:9

I got the idea for this poll after seeing a fan remake of Sonic 3 & Knuckles in 3D on YouTube and with remakes being so in vogue now thanks to Resident Evil 2 Remake, I was like, why not?

Would you be down for 3D remakes of Genesis Sonic games? Speaking personally for myself, after seeing said fan remake of Sonic 3 & Knuckles with 3D reimaginings of its levels and seeing 3D reimaginings of various classic Sonic levels in Generations, I think it could totally work. Imagine Ice Cap Zone or Angel Island in 3D. Or a Knuckles boss fight that actually lives up to the hype with real AI and not held back by the Genesis’ limitations. I have a funny feeling the AI on the Genesis may have really hampered what they were able to pull off with the character as an actual boss and that’s why he’s so easy (to beat AND play as). A hypothetical Sonic 3 remake could also simply be called Sonic 3 with both parts as the OG game was intended.

Now would Sega realistically shell out the dough to rebuild the classic levels from the ground up in 3D instead of continuing Sonic and Co.’s stories in whole new 3D (Modern) Sonic games is a whole other can of worms. I doubt it (and mind you, Sega doesn’t have multiple studios for working on Sonic games like Capcom does for Resident Evil), but crazier things have happened.

As a retro gamer, a Genesis owner and an OG 90's Sonic player... ew. That's all I'll say lol

Edit: but I'm sure some people would like it. It's just not for me.

Eh, no. They're fine with 2D gameplay and graphics.

They should make a proper modern collection of Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles along with 4) since these titles arent available for purchase in any of the stores (Aside from 4).

A new Sonic Mania would be nice.

Nah fam.
I'd rather get a remake of Sonic Unleashed with difficulty settings so my scrub self can beat it. I got about 20% in and gave up due to a combination of boredom and difficulty.

What’s funny is I literally had this exact thought last night as I was watching a video retrospective on Knuckles Chaotix. I can't remember what I was envisioning... but maybe it'll come to me later today.

NO. Not a single Sonic game needs a remake nor deserves one.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

This is why Sega loves throwing Green Hill Zone into everything.

Sonic Generations is a pretty good idea of what that would be like. It worked fine, but I think I'd rather they just do that style and make it a greatest hits sort of thing. Not all of the levels were winners. If you convert 2d to 3d its really not the same game anymore, so I don't really see the value in a "remake" to the extent that is even possible. Using past games as inspiration though is fine by me.
