Most times, Nintendo seems to understand the importance of launching new hardware with a killer app 1st party title. Often these games are among the most acclaimed and bestselling titles for the duration of the hardware's lifecycle. Through the decades Nintendo has launched some groundbreaking titles day one alongside their new hardware. Sometimes these games were packed in to boot. But which do you think is the greatest Nintendo launch title?

Some highlights include Super Mario Bros. on the NES in the US. Tetris on the Gameboy. Super Mario World on the SNES. Super Mario 64 on the N64. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Wii Sports on the Wii. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on the Switch and most recently Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. Which do you think is the best of the bunch? Which had the most system selling power?

Any other launch titles you would include?

GBA, DS, 3DS, and Gamecube had meh 1st party launch titles to be honest. Wii U gets a pass for NSMBU.

Tough call; Mario Bros/World/64, Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, and Mario Kart World are all great games.

Ultimately though, I gotta go with BOTW; few games have blown me away quite as much, it was what I dreamed games of the future would be like when I was a kid in the 90s, with how a multitude of interactive elements gave rise to almost endless emergent possibilities.

Best Game-Super Mario World.

Most important-Super Mario Bros NES/Tetris Game Boy

Most Innovative- Mario 64.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Mario 64 and the jump to 3D world is way bigger than these puppies.

Calling Super Mario Bros a launch title is like calling Ocarina of Time a launch title since it was released alongside the iQue in 2003.

Super Mario World. It's the game that made me love Nintendo. ^^

Super Mario 64, N64 would have been dead in the water without it. It is also an amazing game, relative to other launch titles. With this game, Nintendo had a fighting chance in that generation and arguably beyond.

If by "greatest" you mean judging from a modern perspective? Breath of the Wild. If we're adjusting our lens according to when the game released? Mario 64.

If only the Switch 2 waited till the release date of Donkey Kong Bananza to launch, then Donkey Kong Bananza could be a contender.

Also, in case anybody is curious why Wii U never took off, this list should answer this question.
