Forums - Gaming - Your top 5 games of 2025!

For me it's all VR

1. The Midnight Walk

Absolute stunning on PSVR2, claymation is pure magic in VR. Great story and characters. I took my time with it to savor every moment and look forward to playing through it again.

2. Hitman WoA

Hitman made it to PSVR2 early this year with all 3 games fully playable in VR. This is even better then GTA in VR. Sandbox fun.
Each location is unique and looks fantastic. It's like going on holiday every time putting the headset on.

3. Lumines Arise

One of the best HDR implementations on PSVR2 from deep blacks to highlights of reflections that catch your eye. With headphones on it's a total escape from the outside world. Add an edible, no fall mode, it's the most relaxed and amazed you'll ever be.

4. VRacer Hoverbike

Intense racing, Wipeout is back in the form of VRacer. Ultra smooth, clear visuals, fast turns.

5. Firmament

Myst / Riven in VR, another dream come through. It's an odd one, running at 30 fps reprojected to 120 fps. Not as clear as the others up there, but still smooth enough, although I played it on PS5 Pro. The world and puzzles are great, as well as the voice acting. Love it enough to play it back 2 back. The navigation puzzles were fun enough to do twice.

As you can probably see, the video capture from the social screen runs at 30fps and extends further to the left (left eye capture). I guess it renders a bigger fov for whatever reprojection magic it uses to double the frame rate to 60, which then gets further reprojected to 120.

Honorable mention: Hotel Infinity.

Hotel Infinity turns a 2x2m space into a huge hotel with portals, twisting and turning to get through. It works, mind blowing.

The whole thing is just a 90 minute walk, perfect to complete in one sitting.

1. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

2. Hollow Knight: Silksong

3. Donkey Kong Bananza

4. Pokémon Legends Z-A

5. Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound

I always see these threads every year and it always reminds me just how many newly released games I don’t play. I won’t do a top 5 by default. The only one I played from start to end and greatly enjoyed it.

1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Ride The Chariot | ‘25 Completion

I think I've played a total of two (2) games released in 2025, and here they are:

  1. Ghost of Yotei - I'm not sure I need to elaborate this very much. Let's just say that I enjoy the setting and the open world, especially how it doesn't feel like it's giving me menial side quests all the time. I think it's leaning more towards that than the previous game, but regardless, the side quests actually feel kind of interesting - I want to play them, and if I don't, usually it doesn't feel too difficult to skip (postpone) them.
  2. Farthest Frontier - It's a survival city-builder game, akin to Banished. It doesn't do anything too special, but what it does, it does really, really well. I've especially seen some praise for the tech tree that was added just before the actual release, and it does indeed feel pretty good. I think the game has that 'one more turn' (or rather, its real-time equivalent) going on really strongly. Endgame is a bit lacking, but so far I've felt pretty good starting a new city every time a city has started feeling kinda done, so despite that, I think the game offers very good value. It also has particularly great music.

I'm also looking forward to playing Death Stranding 2 and Assassin's Creed: Shadows, and I have no doubt they will also fit nicely on the list. AC: Shadows will likely take the last place among the four, if previous releases are anything to go by. Oh, and I almost forgot Clair Obscur, so I guess that's five that will likely end up on my final list eventually.
