Forums - Sales - US Sales: November 2025 (Circana)

I didn't realize how poorly BO7 is performing compared to the usual COD standards.

Being 7th in YTD charts is crazy.

Yes, with just 8 days of sales BO6 debuted 3rd YTD. With 15 days of sales BO7 is debuting 7th.

MWIII, MWII, BLOPS CW, MW(2019), BLOPS4, WWII and Infinite Warfare all debuted 1st.

Vanguard debuted 2nd only behind the previous years CoD (BLOPS CW).

Debuting 7th in USA YTD for CoD is unheard of.

How much of Sonys numbers is explained by PS5 Pro launching last year inflating its numbers? Maybe this is just the correction, especially considering the Pro is not really a compelling piece of hardware to keep up the second wind.

Considering PS5s install base & price its number don't ring alarm bells. Switch 2 is a little bit more worrying but also maybe a necessary kick up the butt for Nintendo.

They don't appear hungry with the S2 software and unlike PS5 during its cross gen period, they can't rely on being the best way to play pretty much all and any upcoming third party games.

Alarm bells don't matter, tariffs and increasing RAM prices mean every console will cost more next year than this year, there is no saving traditional consoles in the AI Boom era we live in today. All these consoles will cost more next year and thus sell less than this year, no matter what Nintendo or any of the others do.

Garbage numbers for everyone. The discount for ps5 in the US was too small this holiday, due to the price rise it was more expensive than 2024.

Europe has just saved the day.  2 million PS5 units sold in November.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

The reason PS5 didn't get the same boost in the US vs Europe is that PS5 previously sold much faster in the US, meaning fewer holdouts left to upgrade to PS5 in the US vs Europe.

No lol. This has nothing to do with the PS5 tapping out because of having a high install base. It's very far from that point.

PS4 with much higher install base will have had better sales than this in years past. It's a pricing issue.

It's everything to do with the EU getting a WAY bigger discount than the USA this year.

The discount for slim digital in the USA was 20%. The Discount in the UK was over 30%.

Probably has something to do with Tarrifs

I think its likely that no console reaches 1M sales in the US during December. Switch 2 could go from 500k sales in November to 800k sales in December in the US. So a 1,3M holiday looks fairly likely, which would maybe make Japan the biggest market for Switch 2 this holiday.

Still not enough to undo the damage in the US, but an incredible result. Thought it might just barely do over 2m this holiday but beat it by more than I thought.

While USA posts the worst month for console sales in 30 years, PS5 in Europe has the highest November sales for a system ever.

Maybe not, if the drop from Switch 1's first holiday remains the same, Switch 2 will do about 850k in December, as you pretty much say.

You never know though, maybe Christmas won't be quite as bad... for some reason.

I think you're missing his point as Europe just doesn't buy EA Sports FC. He gave examples of Red Dead, The Last of us, Horizon, CyberPunk, The Witcher 3 etc. The line of thinking there is the "West" would include Europe as well as the US because the purchasing tastes are so similar there for gaming and is still West of Japan. For example CoD tops both the US and Europe charts at times.

So Europe likes EA Sports as well AAA games on PS while Japan enjoys Nintendo games, why would that mean that Japan has bad taste in gaming?

In the west they buy Nintendo games too, and in large numbers. How much did Breath of the Wild sell in Japan? Was it even 3m? So, it sold 30m copies outside of Japan.

In the west they buy everything across every genre. Nintendo games, Sports games, shooters and everything else. Games that are good generally do well in the west. RDR2 sold more than any CoD or FIFA game ever. They just get released every year and are over represented in sales charts.

In Japan it doesn’t matter how good some games are, they just will never sell. Even Expedition 33, a JRPG basically, sold poorly just because it wasn’t made in Japan. If you look at all the Goty games of this decade and look at their sales numbers in Japan, they are all shockingly bad to low. That’s Clair Obscur, Astro Bot, BG3, Elden Ring, It Takes Two and the last of us pt.ii. BG3 probably sold almost nothing in Japan, and 20m overall. All the games that sell millions in Japan though, they all sell millions in the west too. We play those games on top of all the other games already mentioned. It’s not an either/or situation, we’re buying both.

Just depressing that we hit a 30 year low here. I think we’re finally starting to see the real effects of the way Gen alpha (and younger Gen Z) have basically abandoned console gaming for pc gaming. I’m genuinely worried for the survival of console gaming in 15 years or so. Which as a life long console gamer who vastly prefers it to pc gaming for a whole host of reasons, sucks hard to think about.

With all of that said though, I do think Nintendo was perfectly poised to have a massive holiday with S2 if they had tried whatsoever on the software end. It’s absolutely absurd to me they expected a Hyrule Warriors and Kirby Air Riders game to be the exclusives that would sell their new hardware for its first holiday season. That should’ve been their first party exclusives holiday lineup last year for Switch 1 on its death bed, not for their shiny new successor.

I do think it's for a few reasons.

1. The rise of PC gaming

2. Uncertainty in the USA with tariffs and such. The USA is not in a recession or worse yet, but a good chance it could happen in 2026 or 2027.

I suppose it could also be the software libraries for PS5 even though it's been out for 5 years, but I doubt it. Nintendo is banking hard on Mario Kart World to sell units this holiday even though it was a launch title. If we only look at November and December, Nintendo's first-party offerings are less than I would've expected when Switch 2 was announced (but not unveiled yet) this year.

Hyrule Warriors and Metroid Prime 4 are mostly for core gamers. Kirby Air Riders will obviously be successful to say the least, but it's no Animal Crossing or Super Smash Bros. And it sure isn't 3D Mario or 3D Zelda but I didn't expect those anyway. Well, once DK was announced I more or less figured 3D Mario had no chance of coming out before Holiday 2026.
