Good hold for the PS5 all things considered. I'm still expecting < 1m for the year, but thanks to the price decrease it will top 7.3m LTD by the end of December, which is certainly more than I expected previously.

Surprisingly weak sales for the Switch 2 with it dropping under 100k already breaking the new streak and being significantly lower than the equivalent week for the Switch 1 in 2017. I didn't expect that at all but the explanation they're sending a relatively higher amount of stock to the west than Japan makes sense. For the Switch 1 this is a nice week with it matching the equivalent one for the 3DS in 2017 so if it keeps doing that the next few weeks it'll have a fantastic December for its age. Also good week for the PS5 thanks to the Pro discount though the downside is this means more exporting.

Because all the components they buy to produce Switch 2 are bought in dollar amounts, and in Japan they sell the Switch 2 at 49k-53k in yen value, and the yen is a very weak currency. So the end result is likely that they sell it at a loss in Japan. The same will be true for Sony and their current 55k yen price in Japan, which means i don't think Sony will be supplying big volumes to Japan in the future due to them likely not wanting to lose too much money supplying the Japanese market. |
They don't have to pay tariffs or overseas shipping costs to sell the Switch 2 in Japan where it's made.

Avoiding overseas shipping costs? Is Switch 2 not being manufactured in countries like China and Vietnam? (Unless I’m misunderstanding your point here.) I’d be shocked if Nintendo wasn’t outsourcing manufacturing cost to a less wealthy nation.

I am talking with no grounds here, but I think the cost to ship from China or Vietnam to Japan would be way lower than having another continent as its destiny

Substantial bumps for Legends Z-A, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft on Switch, presumably the holiday shopping season kicking in.
Switch 1 still duelling with PS5 months after its replacement, beast of a system.
Switch 1 is really still out there competing with the current gen PS system ... Amazing considering at the point we're at. it's not over for the Switch to reach a new milestone unless Japan says so haha !
Good hold for Kirby Air Riders in Japan. Honestly I could see it selling about 1M in lifetime sales over there only (with digital included).

The price cut seems to be doing a lot less than I was expecting for PS5. Barely matching last year’s figures, and those were without the cut. Sony really shot themself in the foot by pumping up prices so aggressively last year. PC is growing fast in the region, and those price hikes certainly didn’t help Sony’s case. With chips becoming so much more expensive, however, maybe this transition will be slowed down a bit… PCs are about to become very unaffordable.
