I meant lifetime as well.

Prime 4 seems like the kind of game that will be front-loaded, with the franchise's small but dedicated following jumping in right away after waiting so long for it, so legs may not be a big factor.

Well the lifetime sales of ZA aren't decided, because the game just came out, and we don't know when the next big Pokemon game will come out.

I expect Switch 2 Metroid to sell better from day 1, most fans will want to play the superior version. And the game has potential for growth beyond the existing fanbase. Look how much bigger Zelda and Animal Crossing got. Being a standout and hopefully well marketed early Switch 2 game might give it decent legs compared to older games in the series.

ZA's legging it out better on Switch 1 so far, from the charts we have, it's base is fairly casual and it'll take time for most to upgrade.

It'd be cool if Prime 4 was able to grow the series significantly like those games did, but I'm not holding my breath as we've seen multiple attempts to break the series out of niche status not quite pull it off. Even Dread with the "Switch boost" on its side only cracked 3 million.

We have our first data point; in it's first week in the UK, 83% of Prime 4's sales were on Switch 2, and 17% on Switch 1:

Good to see most people's logic panned out well.

This sounds like a success to me. Best selling Prime entry to date and I believe it will also outsell Dread long term to become the best selling Metroid (4m).

Probably its sales in UK/US will be stronger than Japan

Switch 2 but I bought both for completeness of my collection.

FW Spain. 12k on Switch 2, 3.5k on Switch 1.

Switch 2.
The larger base of player doesn't matter. Metroid is a nich game for hardcore Nintendo fans and most are going to buy the Switch 2 version.

IMHO, It's going to sell 2~3M copies, most on Switch 2.

Switch 2 makes the most sense. As the Switch 2 game cart also works in the standard Switch. So even if you only have a standard Switch, the switch 2 cart will work in it. Plus if you ever upgrade to the Switch 2 then the higher quality assets will already be on the game cart.

Switch 2 Game Cards that run on Switch (cross-gen) make me think of the black Game Boy cartridges. And the clear Game Boy Color cartridges are like the Switch 2 Game Cards with the grooves that won't fit in Switch.

I won't be surprised if the Switch version sells under 1 million copies, Switch 2 is the main event.
