Final four games left

Current list - https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=249858&page=1#6

10
- This game, which launched a major franchise, was originally conceived as a remake of another title.
- “Wow, what a mansion!” - just one of several iconic lines from this game that’s known for its cheesy dialogue.
- This game coined the term ‘survival horror’

05
- Yet another re-working of this game was recently announced for release next year.
- The well known heroine visits Peru, Greece, Egypt, and Atlantis in this title that launched a major franchise that has gone beyond the boundaries of gaming. As of writing, it currently has three movies, several comics, and an animated show on a streaming service to its name.

03
- In this game, the hero can take flight for the first time. There are three power ups that allow him to do this.
- Whistles can whisk you away to other worlds.

02
- Some feel the abundance of human enemies in this game lessens the sense of isolation the previous game did so well. By the end of the second level, you’ll have come across more human enemies than you will have done in the entirety of the previous game.
- This is the first sequel to the game in clue number five.

#10: Resident Evil

#5: Tomb Raider

#3: Super Mario Bros. 3

#2: Tomb Raider 2

@TruckOSaurus saw those clues like it was a car and said... I got this. Four out of four.

Warcraft III

This mash up of RPG elements with RTS spawned more game mods and even whole genres than any other game I can think of. The music is awesome, the character voices are quotable to infinity and the custom games are so varied and fun that you really do not need another game. Well… at least that was true when the original released. I’m still butt-hurt that the game I have spent the most hours playing really is no more. Sure there are ways to play offline and even online but with more hassle and less players. But what this game was back in 2002 in value of entertainment per money payed will probably never be repeated.

Recommended for anyone with a time machine who still can experience it in its full glory.

I still play it weekly. Reforged's issues are mostly limited to menus and bad connection at this point.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Made me feel like playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time again. Little less silly but with improvements in pretty much every other aspect. I have a hard time seeing this game ever leave my top spot. The original Resident Evil 4 is also in my top 5. But this version is better suited for new gamers. It is still 100% Resident Evil 4, probably the only remake that I think succeeded in keeping the same feel but making it new. When I'm but in a home nearing death and the remake-remake releases, I hope someone will make it possible for me to experience it.

Maybe one day there will be a game I can recommend over this one. But it is not this day .

Oh? I might need to check it out again then. But I still prefer the art style of the original, but if the fixed the issues making it playable...

Time for games #19 to #10:

#19: Overwatch (2) (PC) - I almost skipped on Overwatch because I'm not much of a FPS guy but the art style and the interesting characters made me want to try it. I did try and I liked it, I liked it a lot. This has to be one of my most played games of all time, it's what I call my default game, if I'm not playing the brand new release, I'm playing Overwatch. Even while working through a great single-player game, I'll take break from it and play some Overwatch.

#18: Super Mario World (SNES) - I beat Super Mario World in 3 days after getting my SNES, but that doesn't mean I stopped playing when I reached the credits. After b-lining straight to Bowser thanks to Nintendo Power, I went back to every level to experience every challenge of this expertly crafted game.

#17: Metroid Dread (Switch) - Finally a new Metroid! And damn it's good! Perfect controls, smooth animations and in every cutscene Samus is so damn cool. EMMI zones brought a nice variety to the gameplay and once you're comfortable with Samus' moves, it feels so good to outrun an EMMI by wall-jumping, sliding, grappling. The game has the best bosses of the whole series where the old strategy of face tanking the boss while unloading all your missiles is not viable anymore.

#16: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - The 3D Mario titles have such varied designs and that's why I love them. Galaxy is bursting with great ideas and the central theme of travelling to different galaxies opens up so many possibilities. It makes getting all 120 stars a delight (not a big fan of having to redo the game as Luigi though to unlock the final challenge).

#15: Final Fantasy VI (SNES) - This game features amazing music, a story with many twists and surprising moments, a great cast of characters. The gameplay is engaging with Espers allowing you to learn magic, boost your stats, this paired with the relics you can equip make for great customisation. Kefka is such an entertaining vilain and the story is not afraid to go the some dark places.

#14: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) - Who would have thought that after such an inventive game as SMG there was room for more. I was fully expecting to like SMG2 a bit less than its predecessor since it would be using the same concept but Nintendo managed to outdo themselves with this one. The addition of Yoshi and the various fruits he can eat plays a big part in making the game feel fresh but even the levels where you play as only Mario are as inventive as ever. What makes this game even better is that once you get all 120 stars, you're presented with a whole other 120 stars to find which I much prefer.

#13: Super Metroid (SNES) - Music, atmosphere, tight gameplay, a truly interconnected map, so many cool powerups (speed booster/shine spark being the coolest). Super Metroid took what the previous two games had established and refined it to perfection.

#12: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch) - A massive 3-layer playground with brand new tools is what TotK offers. Sometimes it's hard to wrap my mind around all the things you can do in this game, I played it for more than a hundred hours and there's plenty left undone. There's still that sense of discovery present in its predecessor even with the surface being mostly the same map, the quests are fun and plenty, you can get crazy with zonai devices, there's many new enemies to fight and many new ways to tackle your challenges.

#11: Metal Gear Solid (PS1) : The first game in the Solid series is still my favorite, with many memorable characters, fun stealth gameplay and just the right amount of Kojima craziness.

#10: Final Fantasy X (PS2) : This game's story really gets to me, I love Tidus and Yuna and the world of Spira. There's so many beautiful moments (Yuna's sending in Kilika being my favorite) and the ending destroys me everytime. It's also a very enjoyable game to play, the sphere grid system allows for constant evolution of your party, seeing when the enemy will attack helps in planning your actions, the end-game allows you to be crazy overpowered (and tackle crazy overpowered foes too!)

Work, work!

My #1 is a game that is truly special, but my #2 is one that is everpresent in my life. Warcraft 3, the classic of classics, the game where games are made, everything about this game is utterly iconic to those that played it growing up, the characters, the units, the world. WoW might have become a bigger success but this is where that sucess originated, it's was a quantum leap ahead of Warcraft 2, establishing hero based gameplay and one of the greatest fantasy worlds. So yeah the campaign is a masterpiece in itself, but its thanks to the community made custom games that I keep coming back, it's infinite games within a game. I even have a map with a friend where we've added the protagonist of games #3 and #4 (see below) and also the protag of #1 and many other familiar faces before we started making trailers. There's always more to play in Warcraft 3 or more to make, so I don't see a world where I'll ever fully stop playing this gem.

Understandable, I also still play on classic graphics. Basicly the base game and campaigns and all that should be golden now, custom games work in 99 % of cases, but like I said there are some connection issues some times. But honestly I've just sorta gotten used to it.

One last hint for the one last game.

1) The best JRPG and video game where you go on a journey to regenerate a dying world

Originally a GameCube exclusive, this Tale has since been told on PS2, PS3, PC and a bunch of newer systems.

Two games left

#3

  • The second and final game in a space combat sim series that spun off from the Descent series of games
  • The developer, which has since shut down, is far more famous for developing a series of open world games that began as a fairly blatant GTA clone, but by the second game had created an identity all its own

#2

  • A war from 11,000 years ago ended the subjugation of humans
  • Was marketed as Sony's Final Fantasy killer back on the PS1
