Very cute and wholesome.
Not sure where they're going with this, whether it's a teaser for a game or movie, or just a showcase for the newly formed Nintendo Pictures, but this is quite well made.

That’s one idea I was also thinking…that would fit the Mario Galaxy movie very well. Weird to fill the short with Pikmin music and easter eggs if that’s the case though lol.
Edit: Watching the clip again but without audio, I can say with 99% confidence this is for the Super Mario Galaxy movie. The light blue clothes, the blonde hair arranged in a style reminiscent of Rosalina’s, the present theming of moons and stars (e.g. on the objects hanging over the cradle), the quality appearing as though it was ripped from a movie, etc. Also, that “Pikmin” cameo in the background may or may not simply be one of those toys simply rolling around, though I wouldn’t hold it past Miyamoto to include a Pikmin cameo.
Edit 2: Buuut…this is compelling. And the music is veeeery clearly creating the effect of Pikmin. Hm. I’m a little stumped. I’ll continue leaning toward Mario Galaxy Movie, but I could definitely see this being our first look at a potential Pikmin film/short series.

It would be very Miyamoto to have Pikmin be a bridge between Mario and Rosalina. He’s always wanted Pikmin to have a higher tier status and this would certainly do it.
I think you are looking too much into it. For me, this is nothing more than subtle references on a short animation showcase of the new studio. For example the ballon portrait at 2:23 making a reference for Ballon Fight.

We reap what we sow
I'm hoping this is their testing of waters for future projects within and outside of gaming.
Really enjoyed this.

One thing I don't like is how they've abandoned any strive for their own style when it comes to CGI. This looks straight out of dreamworks/pixar and doesn't feel very Nintendo.
Also with the Mario movie how much their abandoned the Nintendo's musical roots to just license 100 different pop songs for the last couple decades. Somewhat off topic but I hope with Zelda they truly have a score that sounds Japanese and like its from the world of Zelda, not just one or 2 Hollywood interpretations over classic themes
