Forums - Nintendo - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, out now on Switch 2

Just realized that while we have threads for the likes of Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders, there's no thread for the other first party holiday title.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is a Musou spinoff of Tears of the Kingdom, releasing exclusively on Switch 2 November 6th this year.

Recent footage and previews from Tokyo Game Show indicates the game runs at 60fps, unlike the reveal trailer which was 30:

Anyone else looking forward to this one?

I’m really excited. The more I see, the more I like.

I know these games lack the depth and nuance of some other hack-and-slash titles, but the Zelda flavor and local co-op put them over the top for me. It’s one of the rare games my wife and I enjoy in equal measure.

The game is based on Tears of the Kingdom which itself got bumped to 60 fps in its Switch 2 Edition, so it's feasible to get 60 fps here. It's also possible that the game offers a Quality/Performance option like the first Fire Emblem Warriors, so in this case something like 4k@30 and 1080p@60.

I am looking forward to this one and I am optimistic that the Hyrule branch of the Warriors IP can return to form after Age of Calamity had a myriad of drawbacks. The most obvious one (framerate) doesn't seem to be present here, so that's a big plus already. Story-wise, AoC opted for an alternate universe, but AoI should be able to stay true to the original material and still have the good guys win. I am also hoping for a notable better upgrade mechanic for weapons and shorter loading times.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

I'm in, despite the criticized story elements because of it's AU timeline, I was fully impressed by the progression of the musou format of the original into a more story driven experience that borrowed a lot from the actual game it's from.

Also, the soundtrack was just a BANGER !

So yes, the sequel is in my cords

Just not sure about this one. The reason I loved Age Of Calamity was in big part because of Link. The way he could dodge and then do the flurry attack from BOTW was just so fun to play. If this truly is canon to Tears, then he cant be in it, so thats why Im hesitant about this one.

The game is out now!

Anybody here pick it up yet? My copy is still in the mail as I was too lazy to haul my arse down to the store when I am already snowed under with games.

I do look forward to trying it out though, it looks like a lot of fun.

Yes, Link is absent, though they came up with a workaround… also, canon is very weak in this game from what I’ve read. Gameplay got a big upgrade

Nice, let us know what you think! :)

My copy arrived today, and I played through the first few levels.

It's very much more of the same in terms of the core gameplay, so if you enjoyed the prior two Hyrule Warriors games, you should have a good time with this too. There are refinements, but nothing that breaks the mould.

After the shaky 20-30fps of the previous games on Wii U and Switch 1 though, the smooth 60fps of Age of Imprisonment feels incredible and makes the action more satisfying than ever before.

Graphically you can tell it started as a Switch 1 game; the assets are very much on par with a high end Switch 1 title, indeed many seem to have been lifted directly from Tears of the Kingdom, and there's no DLSS or indeed even anti-aliasing, but thanks to its art style it still manages to look attractive.

For those who are also playing, what do you think?
