When will Call of Duty come to Switch(2)

2025 (Surprise incoming) 2 11.11%

2027 0 0%

2028 1 5.56%

So, I think this is pretty straight forward but during the whole Activision purchase, Microsoft claimed that purchasing the studio would help bring its games to more users.  However, every game that Activision was making would have released on Xbox, PS5 and PC from the start.  We have seen some games come to Switch such as Tony Hawk but I really think those titles were always destined to come to Switch in the first place.  Phil Spencer proclaimed that Call of Duty was coming to Switch.  Everyone assumed that he meant Switch 2 when in never materialized for the original Switch console. The purchased was completed in 2023.

Please keep in mind that Phil stated that Microsoft had made a binding agreement with Nintendo.

So the question is simple... Where the heck is it?

They may be holding off until Switch 2 has sold enough units to warrant making it. We have to keep in mind, Call of Duty games on Nintendo consoles were never huge sellers, especially with the Wii U, so I can understand them wanting to wait a while longer before making the commitment.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the 10 year deal with Nintendo was a promise to bring Call of Duty to their machines at some point during those 10 years, but they didn't actually commit to a date or time when this would occur?. I'm probably wrong on that but I can't remember them promising Black Ops 7 on Switch 2 for example.

Call of Duty is the top selling game almost every year (if you don't count GTA5).  It would probably be the best selling game on Switch as well.  Also, he made that statement years before the Switch 2 was announced.  They had plenty of time to get the game on the console in some capacity, even on Switch 1 even if it was an older title or one that was severly cut down.  There is no universe where the Switch 2 doesn't curbstomp the Xbox Series consoles.  I feel like he made this announcement way to early... or misled the public about it completely.  If they are only going to support it for 10 years from the purchase date, how long are they gonna take to get annything out for the console?  This was a huge componet of the their reasoning for being allowed to purchase the game.

I bet you that the new call of duty runs on the Rog Ally X which will sell a fraction of what is Switch 2 has already sold.

My guess is that COD, being a yearly series, is on a very tight production schedule across multiple dev teams spanning the globe. I think the games are planned three to four years in advance and that it was too disruptive to add Switch 2 to their plans at whatever stage of development they happened to be for Black Ops 7. Hopefully COD will make it onto Switch 2 next year.

This is a good point but I feel they could have brought some of the older titles over.  This way he could have at least been able to deliver on that promise sooner.  I mean he never said he was bringing the brand new COD to Switch.  Some folks assumed it would be a version of the mobile COD or perhaps some like some of the titles that were rereleased on Xbox of older titles.  Don't think it helps them to make excuses for why they can't get the series on the console.

The remasters of Modern Warfare seem like an obvious choice to port to Switch 2.

This year's COD missing Switch 2 is a pretty significant fail from both Nintendo and Activision, both should have made sure to make it happen.

File size and tight release schedule are challenges that will become bigger when the PS6 arrives and the series ditches older consoles. They might need to expand teams or hire an external developer specifically for Switch 2 development.

Since COD 4 back in the day, has Nintendo ever had a COD game that is in complete parity with the Playstation and Xbox versions? I don't think it has. This is just par for the course when you buy into their platform.
