I voted for A-. A lot of stuff that should please a large number of people. If that's not your case, you simply are interested only in more specific games that eventually come to the console anyways (new 3D Mario game, Smash Bros, etc). One may say that the presentation as a whole was a little bit tiring, but, at the end of the day, the games is what really matter, not the presentation itself.

I also agree that there are too negative towards the Direct, and some of the reasons are really funny to me. I mean, people ripping hair out of the top of their head in anger just because the Virtual Boy accessory costing $100 as if they would buy it even if it were $20. "I won't pay (insert any price here) to buy a bunch of old games that I wouldn't play anyways", that's what they would say, for the VB and basically anything else these days

maybe if it were a fatal frame 5 localization or fatal frame 6, that would be way more hype.

Fatal Frame 5 already came out WW on all platforms back in 2021.

totally missed that. where the hell was i, thanks for that

The fact that they didn't remake the Galaxy games or at least remake the graphics when a movie is coming out and Galaxy 3 is heavily likely now is baffling. The 2 Galaxy games are masterpieces and in my Top 4 games but the price is high for what you get relative to the small cost these are for Nintendo. The HD/4K ports of these probably cost a few million USD at best.

I'm admittedly not much of a techie. I do watch my fair share of DF so absorb some info through osmosis, there are some very clued up posters here that will have proper insight, but I'd be shocked if the cost was that high.

Like how many developer hours could a port like this really require?

Whole games can be made for a few million dollars these days in the indie space that look technically miles better than these 2 ports...

All the merch they were pushing as well... Am I watching a games reel or QVC?

^ this.

I doubt it even cost that much to port these two titles.
This like a week or so of work, by a couple of guys imo.

I'd rate it a C, throughly medicore throughout and most of the games I'm excited about can be played on the switch. I know nintendo doesn't really care about anniversaries so that was pretty much expected how they handled it. But aside from that there weren't really any exclusive killer apps. Banaza was really good but the dlc does not justify the price.

I have very mixed feelings. There's a lot I liked, but nothing that wowed me, and for what they showed, it did not need to be 60 minutes. Also, why in the world didn't Nintendo talk about the Galaxy games running in 4K on Switch 2 during the announcement? If you want people to spend big bucks, leaving out such a big selling point is not the way to do it. Also, I did not see Bananza getting DLC before Mario Kart World.

Prime 4, Fire Emblem, FF7 Remake, the Resident Evils, Hyrule Warriors. There's some good stuff coming, and that doesn't include things that weren't talked about this time like the new Octopath Traveler game. I wish they'd have also announced the remakes of RE 2 and 4. Leaving those out was odd.

I'm getting plenty of use out of my Switch 2 and am really enjoying all the games I've been playing on it, but there is a feeling of the lineup being lighter than it should be since so many of Nintendo's releases are either Switch ports or cross-gen with the Switch, and we still don't have a truly major announcement outside of Mario Kart World and Bananza. While I respect Nintendo's desire to only announce games when they are pretty close to being done so they don't go through the Prime 4 or Zelda delay cycles, they need to ensure that customers always know there's a major game in development like a 3d Mario or Zelda. Even a series that doesn't sell as well but really shows off what the system can do like Xenoblade would do wonders if there was something to show off.

With showcases like this I always think if there is even only one game I'm interested in, than for me it's already a success. These stood out for me personally:

1) Mario Galaxy2, I'm going to buy, because it's the only 3D Mario I never played before. Looking forward to it.

2) Hades2 is also a definite buy. The cinematics shown where fantastic by the way.

3) I don't feel comfortable playing first person, so MP4 is a skip, but looking forward to watching a play through. Will pick up the bike amiibo though, will look great on the shelve.

4) Mario Tennis Fever will remain on the radar, I need to see more how substantial the adventure/story mode is.

5) Undecided on Age of Imprisonment. I enjoyed Age of Calamity, but not sure yet I need a second type of game like this. Will wait on reviews.

7) Virtual Boy is hilarious nonsense, but great for game preservation

I think it's a C given some announcements like Galaxy 2,RE9, FF7, Hades and some release dates were cool.

I found a few things super frustrating though:

  • The fact we got a few mini directs last month gave the impression that they were getting smaller games out of the way for this Direct to focus on big announcements. That was clearly not the case...
  • Price tags of games such as Galaxy 2 and the fact we had Galaxy released in all stars didn't really sit well with me. Should have been $30 and 50 as a package at most and I think even that is a stretch
  • Some of the DLC announcements were strange. DK DLC for 20 is pricey, particularly when you compare to Mario Odyssey, and Pokemon's DLC announcement when the game hasn't released didn't sit well with me. Not that I care about Pokemon but it's yet another sign Nintendo are acting greedy
  • Same theme with the Virtual Boy. Definitely a whacky announcement, which is great. It's nice they gave it recognition... BUT a $100 price tag for a plastic souvenir is insane seeing that the SNES mini - a much superior product and on its own system with 2 controllers - was $80. Again, felt greedy.

At points it all felt tone deaf and the decision to stage it as a 1 hour direct after we've had a partner showcase, an indie show case and a Kirby direct made many assume that this direct was going to make way for the big announcements. Yes I get the Mario Direct took 20 min, but really what did we get, a 2D Yoshi game, Mario Tennis and Mario Wonder expansion pack. The whole thing was underwhelming and had lots of fluff. And after all that they finished it with their iconic one more announcement, which turned out to be FE... And for most fans it was not it.

It's only a C from me because of the sheer amount of games shown (most we knew about) and the fact RE is getting same time release with other consoles which was impressive. But honestly a D would be fair. And I think many are wondering when the next system seller will be released, especially fans like me who want the next AAA game.

I didn’t watch it, I read an article instead and watched a few of the trailers on YouTube - I’ll never find these “pack 40 to 70 commercials into a hour” type Directs to be anything more than a waste of a hour.
However, this one had some announcements that piqued my interest:

Dragon Quest 7 remake - which is great, because I loved the concept of the original, but found the design, pacing, and linearity to make the game… not really my thing! Dragon Quest 6-8 was a stretch I didn’t enjoy in a series I otherwise love, but all three of those games had stuff in it I really liked (such as the presentation of DQ8). So, ann entirely new approach might make it something I’ll be into.

Super Mario Galaxy 1&2 Collection is something I’ve wanted for a while on updated hardware. I see complaints about the price, for me it’s well worth the price. So this is a must have for me.

FF7 and Stardew Valley - already expecting both of these. Already planned on purchasing.

The next is the Fire Emblem announcement. Not much said about the game yet. But I make sure to always look into these.

Resident Evil 9 - this is one I actually watched the trailer on, it looked like something interesting - but honestly, when Milano left the series, I lost interest.

Disgaea 7 - I’ll look into this one as well… but honestly, I think these games take too much time to move… a little too grindy.

Yoshi Mysterious Book - if this is a Tezuka game, always worth looking into.

That’s about it.
I did not like all these 2026 announcements… which often mean Spring to Christmas. It’s disappointing when seeing “ah, I wanna play this!” Followed by “But you won’t be able to for 8 to 17 months!”: Fuck off with that, Nintendo!

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Milano = Mikami. That was an autocorrect error.

I think people don't understand the difference between a Nintendo Direct and a list of games.

The games shown in the Direct were overall GOOD. There was a lot of games and there was something for everybody. There were some nice surprises, more information on very anticipated games that are about to launch, etc.

But the Direct itself? Like... the act of watching a 1 hour long video? It was terrible. There were very long segments about a bunch of games that no one gives a shit about. There were announcements that outright pissed people off (DLC for Z-A before the game's launch, Virtual Boy being behind THREE FUCKING PAYWALLS (NSO, Expasnion Pass, VB Accessory), Switch 1 free upgrades of very minor games and not a single big third or first party (Xenoblade series? Astral Chain? Bayonetta 3? Metroid Dread/Remaster? Fixing Nier Automata's crashes one day? No?), announcing a cheap Pokémon farming game like if it was some big gun... and many more). They relied heavily on games that we already know a lot about and are releasing like... any time (Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, etc). They skipped games that were already announced and we still know nothing about (Rhythm Heaven Groove, Splatoon Raiders, etc).

Overall, the Direct was boring, annoying and lame. That's what people is complaining about. It's the "this could have been an e-mail" thing. Maybe not that extreme, but still.

I guess I look at a Direct as a form of information rather than entertainment so I couldn’t care less about the presentation.

Could it have been trimmed down and more entertaining? Sure, but I’m not going dock it points because the presenter is awkward or it shows things I don’t care about.

For me, a Direct is simply about giving a snapshot of games releasing in the next ~6 months and what I see is a steady stream of interesting games therefore it was a strong Direct.
