I think it's a C given some announcements like Galaxy 2,RE9, FF7, Hades and some release dates were cool.

I found a few things super frustrating though:

  • The fact we got a few mini directs last month gave the impression that they were getting smaller games out of the way for this Direct to focus on big announcements. That was clearly not the case...
  • Price tags of games such as Galaxy 2 and the fact we had Galaxy released in all stars didn't really sit well with me. Should have been $30 and 50 as a package at most and I think even that is a stretch
  • Some of the DLC announcements were strange. DK DLC for 20 is pricey, particularly when you compare to Mario Odyssey, and Pokemon's DLC announcement when the game hasn't released didn't sit well with me. Not that I care about Pokemon but it's yet another sign Nintendo are acting greedy
  • Same theme with the Virtual Boy. Definitely a whacky announcement, which is great. It's nice they gave it recognition... BUT a $100 price tag for a plastic souvenir is insane seeing that the SNES mini - a much superior product and on its own system with 2 controllers - was $80. Again, felt greedy.

At points it all felt tone deaf and the decision to stage it as a 1 hour direct after we've had a partner showcase, an indie show case and a Kirby direct made many assume that this direct was going to make way for the big announcements. Yes I get the Mario Direct took 20 min, but really what did we get, a 2D Yoshi game, Mario Tennis and Mario Wonder expansion pack. The whole thing was underwhelming and had lots of fluff. And after all that they finished it with their iconic one more announcement, which turned out to be FE... And for most fans it was not it.

It's only a C from me because of the sheer amount of games shown (most we knew about) and the fact RE is getting same time release with other consoles which was impressive. But honestly a D would be fair. And I think many are wondering when the next system seller will be released, especially fans like me who want the next AAA game.
