Forums - Gaming - Sony will increase the ps5 price again.

For those wondering why now...

PS5 had 3 month's of stockpiled units back on May 14.

Now 3 months have passed, the stockpile is running low, they need to ship more, thus increasing the price.

They had enough stockpile for US for 3 months, now that stockpile is running low, these PS5s were stockpiled pre-tariff madness, any PS5's after will have the cost of tariffs applied to them, that is why the price increase has happened now, I for one did not know they had 3 months worth of stockpile so it now makes sense why they lasted longer than I thought they would.

Xbox on the other hand, has been cutting back on Xbox manufacturing, so they likely don't have much stockpile, not because it's in high demand but because it simply isn't being made, Lol. Microsoft for the past year or so has been essentially making the bare minimum of what they need to make to sell to consumers, likely in an effort to cut production costs.

I lean towards Nintendo not increasing Switch 2 prices (yet), they've been doing everything in their power to avoid doing exactly that, such as increasing prices everywhere else, Lmao. But I think if this tariff madness extends into 2026 then there's a good chance that Switch 2 will see a price increase sometime in 2026 but for the first year they're going to want to sell as many as possible and have a big launch.

Nintendo tends to sell their hardware at a decent profit though so Switch 2 can probably take the hit longer.

Personally, I'm going to buy a Switch 2 now though, if only due to fear that the price will increase eventually, Lmao. I think that's funnily the most economically sensible decision to make in the current times, there's a bigger chance of Switch 2 increasing in price than decreasing in price so I better get in now. I think Nintendo will wait a while...But I don't if I should risk it.

If we would only knew what the future will be back then .. we would love the time back then rather than complain about it, by putting ps3 and 360 songs.

By the way something very on point even now from the first line - " step 1 you make your console cost the most " (750$) .. this song can be somewhat true even to the present times .. with PS5 to some extent.

This song is hilarious! LOL

With PS3, SNY was on a major high, but so was the worldwide economy, until it crashed in 2008.

With PS5, the worldwide economy has been suffering the entire time since launch, just more gradually.

The difference is really that SNY has had the excuse of inflation for PS5, with a lack of competition this time.

So PS3 gets a $300 cut after 3 years, and PS5 gets a $100 increase across 5 years and a $699 to $749 Pro under 12 months.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

Why would it, even if some GPUs are manufactured in the US, they will be the most expensive of their product line, the GPUs they maintain for the rest of the world will be made cheaper in Asia, so you'll at best pay the same price in the US if Nvidia is being generous, realistically probably more in the long run.

They will keep investments here but move cutting edge production back to Asia as soon as they get the chance too as well once Trump is toast.

Walmart just reported quarterly earnings and they have admitted prices on items is going up at their store. Home Depot said basically the same thing yesterday.

US consumers will pay a consumption tax on a lot of goods. Simple as that.

That and Trump isn't looking so physically well these days, he looked tired at that Russia summit and struggled to just walk in a straight line, this looks an awful lot like the beginnings of what was happening to Joe Biden. He misspeaks more and more often too. I wonder at what point companies will start tuning the Toddler In Chief out as he gets further along in his old age.

It was mostly a joke.  Between PC playing third party, Sony, MS, emulation and free online...  I just think it is the way to go.

and I will happily pay more to ensure people have jobs, but maybe that is just me.

People say that shit all the time and generally they are full of shit.

Once the novelty wears off (which will be fast), you'll be left with a lot of complaining. There are plenty of industries that are largely American run still, you can go to one likely right now in 2-10 minutes to support them if you wish. Restaurants are basically American workers (wait staff, cooks, etc.) and even a lot of the food supply (even for a company like McDonalds) is from the US.

Go ahead. Even places like Dennys and iHop that were affordable 10-15 years ago for a lot of people is becoming more and more expensive, ain't no one sitting there going "well that was $25 for breakfast per person, but it sure was nice paying the salary of an American worker!" ... lol. Less and less people are eating out though, don't see any patriotic surge to go out there and help those home grown American workers. You can even tip them a nice 15-20%, but most people also complain about that. You're welcome to go to bars/pubs and pay $8+ a drink too.

There isn't an employment problem in America to begin with. Unemployment was low under Joe Biden. It's a wage problem, people want higher wages and higher quality jobs, but that means more expensive goods. And hate to break it to people but working in a fucking factory 12 hours a day making shoes or even iPhones sucks ass. A lot of Americans don't want  those jobs any more than they don't want to pick fruit outside 12 hours a day in the blazing sun. Immigrants will do that job because it's above the salary they would get in their country, people in Asia will work for $2-$4 hour with 16 hour shifts and no medical/dental, but Americans don't want to work even minimum wage for soul crushing work.

Making iPhones (or Playstations) is dull, repetitive work that requires long hours stuck indoors, in Foxconn factories in China at one point the conditions were so bad that they had a problem with employee suicides.  These are not glamour jobs.

It won't off for me.  People need jobs.  Someone being unemployed carries more weight than having to save an extra few months for console.

People matter, that simple.

Also more job options means competition, which means higher wages.  Easy to low ball people when their opportunities are limited.

At the end of the day, you and many others, are scoffing at over a trillion in investment.  And no, companies cannot lie about Ops plans.  That is a SEC violation.  Full stop.

Go eat out for dinner every night too and be sure to tip 20% for the wait staff. Gotta support local workers.

The fact is most people complain about the costs, you are being naive in thinking "well it'll just be a few extra bucks for a few items". It's going to become a lot broader than that.

There isn't even an employment problem in the US to begin with, 3.6% unemployment that was achieved under Biden is the lowest in the US in the past 4+ decades. Anyone is free to go pick fruit for minimum wage right now or clean houses or go work in a day care for minimum wage. A lot of people don't want to work dog shit jobs for dog shit salary. In America, minimum wage is dog shit salary. There's no lack of shit jobs here though.

Making iPhones and Playstations is a shitty job, don't get it twisted, just because using those products is fun doesn't mean making them is fulfilling work, anymore than making a Big Mac should be fun because eating them is fun. Again in China Foxconn literally had to install netting around their factories to prevent employees who were trying to kill themselves. Yeah I'm totally sure people will be lining up around the block for these kinds of shitty jobs when a lot of people won't do the many shitty jobs that are available to them any time.

Here is the US unemployment chart too, you see a spike in unemployment during  the 2008 financial meltdown which started under Bush Jr. and then a steady decrease in unemployment during the Obama years which has essentially continued with a brief spike during COVID under Trump. In Biden's term, the US hit all time low unemployment in the last 70 years.

Thanks to Trump tariff, I can't afford groceries, but at least I own the libs on 4K.

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

Tariffs are a big reason for higher prices but don't forget that your country has higher tariff income as ever before! Isn't that enough to make you happy?
