Forums - Gaming - Can canceled games be revived?

Some trailers raised our hopes, high raising our anticipation when they were revealed. The games looked promising from every perspective thrown at us and goes on to establish a fan base. Then without any deceleration of the hype, we get to hear that the game is canceled all of a sudden sending shockwaves through the industry.  Sometimes, it's about financial and other times poor development or bad story that can ruin sales.

Imo, there are hopes for some of these caned games in which some studios can have the rights to the their developments. The awareness of the game has already been established and there are still fans to create awareness through social media.

In your opinion, which cancelled games do you hope to see developed?

Myself. i want to see:

- 8 Days

- The Getaway 2

- Project Milo

Earthbound 64.

But not done the way Mother 3 GBA was done, actually taking it to the original vision, that is with an evolving world and no two games being the same.

It seems different enough from Mother 3 that it could still work.

I would adore the revival of the cancelled EarthBound (Mother 2) remake for GameCube. It was only in early planning stages.

All you have to do is take the OG game, remake the graphics in the claymation style, add bulk purchasing of items, and you're pretty much golden.

Because they recently referenced it in Donkey Kong Bananza, Donkey Kong Racing.

Some great games have been uncancelled in recent years, like Metroid Dread, Star Fox 2 or Shantae: Risky Revolution, so yeah, there is hope for some cancelled games to finally see the light of day.

There are def games that get canned only to be revived a few years/decades later: Some immediately examples that comes to mind are Metroid Dread (originally teased/announced(?) for DS, but got canned due to technical limitations IIRC) and Kirby: Return to Dreamland (originally intended to be a GCN game, but got scrapped). There’s also Mother 3 (N64) — like Jumpin pointed out — that would eventually become Mother 3 (GBA).

As for what I would want to see revived? Skylanders Seven is a personal pick. Would also love to see that one Zelda game where Sheik was going to be the main protag. Mother 3 (N64) is another one.

Is it bad that I kinda want to see the rumored cancelled Tingle horror game to be uncancelled one day? It sounds like an oddly amusing idea. Then again, we have the Luigi's Mansion trilogy, which is also about a lovable but cowardly man dressed in green in scary situations, so Nintendo probably wouldn't see the point in a Tingle horror game.

There's a few first person shooters that I was interested in that amounted to nothing.

The Grinder (Wii)

Asylum (PS2 / GCN / XBox)

That's a game I haven't heard for a long time. Though, from what I can remember, wouldn't this just be done with an AI? We flew way past what this game aimed for.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Star Fox 2 SNES.

Starfox 2 was cancelled and came out in 2017 for the SNES Classic.
