Pretty poor. I barely use the damn thing because the games are kinda boring. Especially compared to the PS3 days. Also I don't even notice graphical upgrades from the PS4 era too much, although I have the PS5 Pro. I mean, I know the graphics are better, I'm not that stupid. But it just never felt like a generational leap.

All that horsepower and I just played with my good old Switch most of the time. Final Fantasy 16 was great though and I play Monster Hunter Wilds with some friends every now and then. But that's about it. Honestly it is the most boring generation of PlayStation I have ever witnessed.

PS5 is the best version of PS4

A agree with the general sentiment: third party is good to great. First party sucks. But since the value of a ps5 rests more on exclusives than third party games, this ps generation is a disappointment. And I think this is mostly due to mismanagememt with too great a focus on gaas. What we could have already had if they did not inves these billions in completely predictable failures. I get that they want to chase that market segment, but with 12 different projects in development at the same time? This is just silly. Should have valued other things more, like Japan Studio, like A / AA games, like single player games, like original ideas instead of remasters, remakes and live service.

Just needs those first party single player games that are the soul of the system. It's been dry as hell on that front. Nothing else to complain about here.

A solid 7/10 from me. I think it's the least impressive PlayStation home console, but it's still, ultimately, a PlayStation home console. And that means it gets a wide range of A, AA, and AAA games. The first-party output is the worst it's been in a long time, in part because of the infrequency of releases and in part because Sony focuses on the wrong things, but there are plenty of third-party games, both exclusive and multi-platform, to fill in the gaps.

On the performance side of things, I adore the short load times. Those have really spoiled me.

In terms of controllers, it's a mixed bag for me. While I love the tech inside the DualSense, I still cannot get onboard with the stick placement. In fact, this is the first generation where I gave up and purchased a third-party controller with asymmetrical sticks.

Ps5 will be my longest ps generation. The ps6 cannot be cheap enough, powerful enough or have enough true explusives to warrent a purchaee for me, the first three years at least. The ps4 got incredible support long after the ps5 was released. There is no reason for me to believe it would be any different for the ps5 and ps6.

I never touched one, so I couldn’t say. However the reason I never touched one is because it never had a single thing that interested me even slightly, contrary to every other PlayStation. So I guess that actually does say something, and it’s not positive.

Also, and I hate to beat a dead horse but I can’t help myself, that picture in OP again painfully displays how insanely ugly it is. That’s got to knock off a point or two. Or three.

The hardware itself is great, SSD hard drive is so fast, controller feels great and when it's features are used well, is really good. I hope they are able to continue this type of innovation in the future.

Games however, are a mixed bag, we all know how Sony have screwed up on the idea of service games but then outside of Nintendo, aren't many developers who haven't. Feels like even though they are publishing a decent amount (more than most publishers, they published 7 non-remasters last year, okay so one was Concord but still they published it), it's feels like they also aren't because their 1st party isn't pumping as many out, I don't think. GoW Rag and Horizon FW are now 3 year old games, we should be hearing about the studios next titles now for release in 2026 (if Horizon is anything to go by, Horizon 3 will release 1 week before GTA :P). Remasters and revamped games to cover lack of their main studios putting out titles aren't good enough, especially are they aren't remastering classic PS3 titles.

Hmm, pie.

I’m saying “Poor.” It’s gotten to the point where I haven’t touched my PS5 since December…and that was to play The Last of Us: Part II Remastered lol. I’m not even slightly interested in my PS5 atm, and I’m not sure if I’ll even touch it again for another several years now that Switch 2 has dropped (and my free time has completely dissipated).

edit: my response is more so pertaining to the first-party output. Second- and third-party seems solid! So…in that respect, I’d give this gen a solid 6. (I kinda screwed this response up lol. Oops.) Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, Astro, Expedition 33, FFVIIRebirth, Stellar Blade, etc., are all very good (from what I’ve heard) games.

Out of curiosity what games have you played since December?

Like in general? There’s a forum on here by Legit that has all the games I’ve played this year, with specific dates and such. However, just going off memory, I played Portal 1 (NS) and Stellar Blade (PS5…forgot i played that lol) during January for one week, then DKC Returns HD (NS), DKC Tropical Freeze (NS), DKC OG (SNES), and Super Paper Mario (Wii) (but i got bored and dropped the game). It’s been quite busy on my end this year, so it’s more that I haven’t had much time to play games…so my lack of PlayStation playtime is a consequence of (a.) im busy, and (b.) there hasn’t been any 1st-party heavy hitters (i don’t tend to touch third-party all too much…not sure why.). There’s also Mario Kart World (NS2) which is my most played game of the year so far.
