Now that we're a good four and a half years into the generation, how would you rate the PS5 so far?

Do you love it? Hate it? Somewhere in the middle?

Give us your score out of ten and explain your reasoning why. :)

I’m saying “Poor.” It’s gotten to the point where I haven’t touched my PS5 since December…and that was to play The Last of Us: Part II Remastered lol. I’m not even slightly interested in my PS5 atm, and I’m not sure if I’ll even touch it again for another several years now that Switch 2 has dropped (and my free time has completely dissipated).

edit: my response is more so pertaining to the first-party output. Second- and third-party seems solid! So…in that respect, I’d give this gen a solid 6. (I kinda screwed this response up lol. Oops.) Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, Astro, Expedition 33, FFVIIRebirth, Stellar Blade, etc., are all very good (from what I’ve heard) games.

PS4 was a 8
PS5 is a 4.

Honestly PS4 had Detroit, TLOU 2, Until Dawn fo the games I love but PS5 has no story games that are relevant

I'm saying great, but that's all on PSVR2. I can't keep up with all the games I want to play on it.

As for the PS5 without PSVR2, not really interested in flat gaming anymore regardless of what system.
Switch 2 zero interest, GTA 6 no hype at all. RE9, only if it comes to VR. Death Stranding 2, not feeling it despite putting 200+ hours in the first one.

In terms of original/new first party content - it sucks mainly because they are focusing on remaking/remastering the same games that did not need it (The Last of Us, Days Gone, Horizon 1) or going full blown support on live service games.

In terms of legacy software through the PS Classics, its great - having access to PS1, PS2, and PSP games again is great.

In terms of preservation or access to the previous generation library (PS4) through b/c - fantastic.

I voted for "Great" for b/c and access to legacy titles but not Amazing due to poor first party output.

It's a great system with an excellent library of games, and will continue to be near fully supported for 6 or so years.

It lacked the wow factor of previous generations, and it suffers from having a small list of true exclusives. But the first weakness is an industry wide problem that Sony can't do anything about (even highend PC's fail to wow me graphics wise). Let's see if The Witcher 4 can look as good as the demo suggests, or whether it's just another case of Nanite in the Land of Lumen.

I think I'd give it like a 6.5.

Some really great games. Love God of War, Horizon, Astro Bot, Demon's Souls. There are a lot of great PS4 games that I'm still replaying.

I would say that for the most part Sony first party has been a disaster outside of those bright points. They're very good bright points for me.

But there have been so many issues this gen. Putting Bluepoint on a live service title is beyond baffling to me. Naughty Dog still hasn't released a game.

Ill give it a 6 as of right now. It has some great games, but Sony themselves have been lacking this gen. Hopefully the next few years will be awesome.

Few but very good first party
Excellent legacy library, with easy access to hundreds of old games for small prices
Superb third party support, many excellent games came out this gen
Overall good performance and technology, dualsense is really a good controller
Games run quickly and smoothly and there is a lot more of colour and charm in art design compared to PS3 (and to some extent PS4) which were kinda of dull art-wise
BC, pretty much all my PS4 library got a free update which improved my experience with those games

Negatives are

- Having to pay a very expensive service for online, which made me move my multiplayer games to Steam
- Price increase for consoles, services and games
- Subpar mid gen refresh with PS5 Pro, and diminished value over the course of the gen with the system slowly getting less and less valuable compared to what PCs can offer for similar prices

PS5 was a great console at launch, offering great tech for an affordable price. The problem is for some reason Sony was not able to reduce production costs effectively. Now I can built a PC around a 4060 Ti which is just better all around compared to a PS5, with much less expensive games and without paying for online. In 2020 was great value, in 2025 PS5 is a good value, kinda. In 2028 it will be a bad value, which is kinda ironic considering only in 2028 we will have "enough" next gen exclusives to maybe justify a console

It's a console that reafirm that generations of consoles are fucking stupid and detrimental to consumers. It's something that stopped made sense during PS3 era but console makers and console gamers alike keep pushing even if they are completely pointless. But alas I see this a industry-problem rather than a PS5-problem, so 8-grade it is

The game library is great, but its mostly thanks to third party support. First party games have been scarce.
