Forums - Sales - Nintendo Switch 2 might have sold 3m units at launch, triple of the previous record (PS4)

I think Nintendo didn't go above 15 million units for the forecast because they didn't want to look stupid. If 3 million units at launch is true, they might update the forecast to 18 to 20 million units.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

This is a massive grain of salt. Not saying it is impossible. I expect it to have had the biggest console launch in gaming history. But lets wait until we get some better data. Either an official statement from Nintendo or data from trackers like Famitsu and Circana.

Of course, we'll only get a few pictures here and there of the whole incomplete ordeal before Nintendo make its official statement.

Should we expect to come relatively soon-ish or do you think this is something to be heard of only on their next fiscal meeting ?

Since when was Nintendo Prime a reliable source?

I am hoping we get a press release from Nintendo this week giving us first day or first week sales numbers. Famitsu (Japan) for launch week will come out this Thursday and Circana (US) for all of June will drop July 23. Hopefully we get as much data as possible to make the VGC estimates as accurate as possible.

Early initial figures have been reported from France and China (HK).

France saw 200k retail during launch day, not counting Nintendo direct sales (Total launch period sales for the Switch were 105k, previous record was PS5 with 107k). Actual sales are likely higher as the console is sold out across the country, and these figures corroborate an earlier report of ~300k units to be shipped to the country during the launch period.

Chinese/HK figures based on major online retailers are at ~250k, with 400k in preorders. For comparison launch shipments for "other regions" for the Switch were at 400k.

Regardless of the credibility of the report, based on these figures I'd say 3m for launch day sounds like a reasonable estimate.

I would think if this were the case, Nintendo would be crowing about it. I'll wait until they say something.

Half of those sales are from scalpers, so meh

I really hope this is true!
