Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Week 21, 2025 (May 19 - May 25)

Good opening for the Fantasy Life sequel, do we know how this compares with the 3DS game opening week ?

Edit :

I checked.

The original had an opening weekend of 126K sold which means FF i did just as good as the original if you count the digital ratio being higher since then.

Also it has already sold 500K worldwide, so hopefully the legs stay on for a while

Basically identical to last week hardware wise and Clair Obscur going up a lot due to excellent word of mouth shows that I really need to play that soon.

Hardware this week was pretty similar to last week, except XBox sold a ton last week for some reason. Four new SKU's in the top 10 though. It's funny to me to see a PS5 SKU for Fantasy Life. I really don't know why publishers do this. It's a sequel to a 3DS game and they ported it to an unpopular platform. Why?

The reason is that Japan is not the only country in the world. It's a popular platform overall and Japanese games are selling more overseas than ever so a Japenese developer not releasing a PS5 version of a notable game is just gonna be a bad business decision in most cases. This new Fantasy Life is doing quite well on PC with nearly half the reviews being in English so worldwide it's probably doing at least decently on the PS5.

Dude, Japan is a dying video game market. The West is what matters the most and that is where a game console must dominate to win and is exactly what Playstation is doing. 🫵🤣

The west is the important market to dominate in the gaming market. Japan gaming has been dead long ago.

I don't understand why you spam every single Famitsu sales thread with this. If you think it makes Nintendo look bad that they ''only sell in Japan'', its not like Nintendo hasn't sold a ton of consoles in the west as well. Soon Nintendo will start selling millions of consoles in the west with the Switch 2 as well. But yes it will be a big advantage for the Switch 2 that it will sell tens of millions of consoles in Japan alone, something PS will never be able to do in the future.

To put that into perspective, its likely that the fact that Switch 2 will sell big numbers in Japan is what will push it into higher lifetime sales than PS5. Because PS higher popularity in Europe is not enough to make up the vast difference in sales in the Japanese market for Sony.

Pretty sure that has to do with trolling or console warring in some capacity considering what he's blating is just not true.

How much did it sell on PC?

There's no concrete numbers for that but based on it having over 5600 reviews currently it's surely already easily over 100k sold on there with it still getting hundreds of reviews a day and still being close to the top of the best sellers list. Its peak concurrent players hit 51k today which is not much lower than its all time peak of 65k so its legs are looking good so far.

Switch's YTD in its 9th year is still higher than the lifetime sales of Xbox Series.

That said, Series has sold nearly 6 times more than the lifetime sales of the Xbone and counting, in one of the few wins for Xbox this gen.
