My experience with Minecraft today:

Support log with Microsoft (unresolved, ticket submitted to minecraft now)

I've been trying to get my kid some Minecraft points.
Purchasing in game didn't work, so I bought a code for 1720 Minecraft points, added it in the Minecraft launcher (how he plays minecraft) and now it seems to have gone to the wrong account.
His Minecraft account is on a different account than his PC account. It seems the Minecraft launcher added it to his PC account, not the account Minecraft is tied to.
On his PC account it says 1720 coins, on the Minecraft market place it says 0 coins.

How can we fix this? How can I buy anything for him?

His PC account is PCaccount, His Minecraft migrated from Java to MINECRAFTaccount
I assume the Minecraft marketplace must be tied to MINECRAFTaccount but the Minecraft launcher adds points to PCaccount.

How can I get the points to the right account so he can use them in Minecraft.

You said: I got this message confirming the transaction, but no use in Minecraft
Hi Sven, ---------- made an add-on purchase for Minecraft Minecoin Pack: 1720 Coins Purchase: Minecraft Minecoin Pack: 1720 Coins Price: USD $0.00 You can review ---------'s purchases in the last 90 days, or adjust purchasing power from the Purchase & Spending page

You said: For some reason his Minecraft account MINECRAFTaccount is set to the USA [in Minecraft, yet shows Canada on the MS profile] instead of Canada, which is why I couldn't add my credit card to pay from in game.
Anyway can you move the 1720 points from PCaccount to MINECRAFTaccount so he can play?

You said: The coins were purchased through CDKeys as Amazon.com didn't allow the purchase "You cannot purchase this product as this region is currently not supported." and Amazon.ca doesn't offer points cards and I can't use my credit card on MINECRAFTaccount [in the Minecraft marketplace] The same problem would have happened anyway, the Minecraft launcher is at fault here.

You said: See above, redeemed points went to the wrong account
You said: Hi, and good afternoon!

Bot WC said: Hello Sven! Please allow me a moment to read above message.
Bot WC said: As per my understanding, you purchased 1720 Minecraft points for your child, but the points were credited to the wrong account. His Minecraft account (MINECRAFTaccount) is separate from his PC account (PCaccount), and the points were added to the PC account instead of the Minecraft account. As a result, he cannot use the points in the Minecraft marketplace. Am I correct?
You said: Yes, that's exactly the issue

Bot WC said: Thank you for the confirmation.
Bot WC said: In this case, we will need the expertise of the Xbox team to provide professional advice on troubleshooting and resolving the issue.

Bot WC said: Your chat has been transferred. An agent will be with you in a moment.
Bot WC said: Hi there! This is Jen, thank you for contacting Microsoft Xbox support. May I know who I am chatting with?

You said: Hi, this is ---------------

Bot WC said: Nice to meet you, Sven! I hope that you are having a great day. How are things working out?

You said: Well, I've been trying to get my kid some minecraft points for the past couple hours. Can you see the start of the chat with the explanation or would you like me to copy paste it down here?

Bot WC said: Just to confirm you redeem a Minecraft code to a wrong account. Correct?

You said: Yes, I redeemed it in the Minecraft launcher, which put it in the PC account instead of the Minecraft account associated with the launcher
You said: The 1720 points ended up with PCaccount, his Minecraft is tied to MINECRAFTaccount
You said: The Minecraft marketplace reports 0 coins.

Bot WC said: I see. Just to set expectation, digital code is not transferable but what we can do here is to transfer the content directly to the Minecraft game through Gifting process.

You said: The content being the coins?

Bot WC said: That's correct. However, since it's through the game process then you need to contact Minecraft support for it.
Bot WC said: https://help.minecraft.net
Bot WC said: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/how-gift-minecraft

You said: There is no Minecraft on his PC account though, not sure why it would even allow to put coins on an account that doesn't have the game. Would that be an issue?

Bot WC said: You just need to create Minecraft account to that email where the code was added to for the Gifting process.

You said: How do I do that?

Bot WC said: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/how-create-minecraft-account
Bot WC said: Hopefully, I was able to provide the assistance you needed today. Is there anything else?

You said: But his Minecraft (from original Mojang account) is already tied to MINECRAFTaccount I don't understand how I can add another Microsoft account to Minecraft

Bot WC said: Is that were the code was redeemed to?

You said: Yes, the minecraft launcher added it to the PC account, not the the Microsoft account that the launcher uses to start Minecraft

Bot WC said: Then that means that you already have a Minecraft account with that email? Correct?

You said: With MINECRAFTaccount yes, Not with PCaccount where the points ended up

Bot WC said: Again, either it's a PC account or Xbox account as long as that email has been linked to Minecraft and you can logit into Minecraft that you should have an option to process the Gifting.

You said: PCaccount is not linked to Minecraft
You said: I can't log in to Minecraft on that PC/XBox account

Bot WC said: In that case you might need to contact Minecraft support. Just to set expectation Minecraft support is different from Xbox or Microsoft Support. we don't have access to the Gaming profile.
Bot WC said: Then you might need to contact Minecraft support for them to check that accounts. https://help.minecraft.net

You said: It's not a gaming profile, the problem is very simple 1720 points on PCaccount need to be on MINECRAFTaccount

Bot WC said: I completely understand that Sven. but you need to get into the game to have the Minecoin transfered to the correct Minecraft account.

You said: The point are on the Microsoft account though, it says right in the email it send me
You said: I don't know how to get support from Minecraft, nor how they would be able to access PCaccount as it's not associated with Minecraft in any way

Bot WC said: The Minecoin has already added to the Gaming account that's the reason why you need to contact Minecraft support.

You said: They'll just send me back to Microsoft support

Bot WC said: You have Minecraft account through this email PCaccount? Correct?

You said: Yes [Incorrect I got confused, no Minecraft account on PCaccount]

Bot WC said: That they should be able to see that profile.

You said: Yes, but not the account the points ended up on. You can access both.

Bot WC said: I understand that this is a Microsoft account. I can definitely access your Microsoft profile. However, the code has already been added to your game, and we don't have access to the game on our end. Minecraft Support should be the ones who can access the game.

You said: But the game is not on that account, so they can't access it either

Bot WC said: account.microsoft.com.

You said: That link opens my own account (MYaccount) and if I log into a different MS account on my laptop everything screws up. I can't fix it, hence I'm on this support

Bot WC said: That's not how it works, Sven. As much I loved to transfer it on the correct profile we don't have access to your Game account.

Bot WC said: Please contact Minecraft support for the content transfer.

You said: Who does? Are the points lost in the ether? I can try Minecraft support, but I don't see how they can access an account that has no Minecraft
You said: I'll try. It shouldn't be this hard to buy in game content. Never again.
You said: Any suggestion which account I should use for Minecraft support? My own, the account with the points or the account with Minecraft. I'm at a loss.

Bot WC said: Just in case if you still need our assistance, you can just provide this reference number: ----------.
Bot WC said: It would be best to use the email where the code was redeemed to.

You said: I'll try that

After the chat I could switch accounts on my laptop (without screwing up chat support) and confirm the points on my kid's PCaccount. But I can't do anything with them.

All submitted to Minecraft support.

You would think redeeming a code in the launcher would put it in the game that the launcher launches. Wtf.

Another thing I don't understand is how both his PCaccount and MINECRAFTaccount link to the same XBox profile which is a different gamer tag than he uses in Roblox. Modern gaming is just too complicated for my 50 year old brain...

Minecraft has been one of the worst experiences I've ever had when it comes to gaming, and I think it's largely thanks to the Microsoft acquisition. They basically removed my account from existence, there's no record of it having ever existed, and I should have all updates free - or at least, that was the deal when I bought the game many years ago. Granted, I was inactive for years.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Hello,

As of December 18, 2023, Minecraft support will no longer assist with migration-related queries as the migration period has concluded.

We consistently reminded players via monthly emails to migrate their accounts, beginning in June 2021. In 2022, notifications were sent, informing players of gameplay restrictions for non-migrated accounts. The migration end date was extended multiple times during the two-year period, finally concluding in September 2023. Players who did not migrate their Legacy/Mojang accounts are no longer able to log into their accounts on minecraft.net or on the launcher.

Following the conclusion of migration in 2023, we offered a 90-day grace period, providing players with a new game license. This grace period concluded in December 2023.

Please note that accounts can no longer be migrated, nor can refunds be processed. Our migration process has been conducted in adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.

For more information, please refer to the following FAQ articles:

We understand that this might not be the expected outcome, so your understanding and support are highly appreciated.

Regards,
Minecraft Support

Guess I'll re-enter the whole crap again under a different support option. There is no option for this problem of course.

All the problems started with that infernal migration. Forcing us to move our Mojang accounts to Microsoft accounts.

And now we get pinged back and forth between Microsoft account support, XBox support and even more useless Minecraft support.

I can't contest the transaction at CDKeys.com as it's not their fault in any way, yet MS shields themselves between pinging you around different supports and thanks for the money but 'tough luck'.

I got a support number now (used account security to get the email through)

Thanks. It's also a teaching moment for my kid, don't lay down and take it.

It's only 10 bucks but that's exactly why they make it all so difficult. Giving you the run around so you give up and spend more.

Plus it's the 3rd strike now for Minecraft:

First all the trouble we had migrating our Mojang accounts to MS accounts. Hence the separate account as his kid account had too many restrictions and not enough security (simple pwd just to use his PC) Despite family settings we couldn't even install a different browser on his PC, even though I gave permission over and over.

Fix (after various chat supports and MS remote operating his PC trying to fix it) delete his restrictive account, made a new account he uses now for his PC. Good thing Minecraft was separate. His old account is still accessible despite MS claiming they deleted it years ago, probably because that outlook email is still tied to various other platforms like Switch, Google, etc.

Then he lost his main save game a year later when the launcher let him try out a new update, beta version, which used the same directory for save games as the main game and overwrote his main world containing all his builds. Saves are not in the cloud, just in some obscure directory on your PC... He doesn't use the default name now anymore for saves, a "do you want to overwrite" warning would have been nice.

So this is kinda minor compared to the last 2 issues, but I'm getting fed up with Minecraft. I've never had this issue juggling 4 PSN accounts, 2 Steam accounts, 3 Nintendo accounts, 4 Roblox accounts. Never a problem getting the content on the right account. Yet the Minecraft launcher screws it up.
Also when I had an issue with a PSN purchase Sony fixed it without sending me to other places. Minecraft is a first party game...

You got a tl:dr read version? Not reading all that

That's the transcript with support.

TLDR

I bought a code for my kid for Minecraft coins.
Added the code in the Minecraft launcher.
The Minecraft launcher added it to the wrong Microsoft account.
When starting Minecraft, no coins.
MS won't fix it, giving me the run around.

The biggest modern gaming woes are tariffs. -_-
