Sunshine is indeed better than many 3D platformers of its era but for Mario standards. It's subpar.

| LegitHyperbole said: I gave that game a 10, I over looked the VA and story, my rating scale hits snags like that when a game is a madterpiece on many levels but falters in others. Here the lipsync being the only flaw which alleviates and becomes a non issue after a few hours and Ben Star being Ben Star is a bit oft putting but it's near flawless at release. Like trying to find flaws and it is hard. Also, here I have the backing of not only journos but the gamers too, wavering between 9.6 and 9.7 user scores and only 10% of people on PS5 have gotten to where the game becomes masterpiece level. It started off great, got phenomenal and just doesn't slow done at getting better on all fronts. This is a whole other story, what I'm playing right now is not even my genre style of game and I love it beyond what words can express, no hyperbole, I like the idea of these games but never has one exceeded an 8, it transcends people's genre tastes and there is so much I could say but I don't wanna spoil it, let's just say the story is on par with the best of the recent golden age of television on all fronts, camera work to performances to... other things I can't spoil. |
User scores on the internet don't mean jack. They usually have a bimodal distribution instead of a normal one (clustered around 0s and 9- 10s), meaning the main factor in a game score is the presence or absence of hate-driven scorers.
Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt the game is pretty good, and who knows, maybe it's the new FF7 in terms of mainstream appeal, just pointing out that maybe the recency factor and you overly liking it might be coloring expectations concerning the game.

It's a fantastic game. It got good reviews and it was a sales success for the studio. Not sure what you are going on about.

Difficult to say. FF16 has 6 voiced language options, Claire Obscure has 2 as far as I know.
Possibly in countries where people do not speak English or French natively or not well enough this could hurt its reception. FF16 also has German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish, simply covering more ground.

Dreamcast was liked even during its time. It just wasn't a PlayStation 2. Wind Waker didn't take a decade to be liked. It was mocked at Space World but once it came out those who did buy it loved it. I was one of them. Sunshine still sucks lol. FFXIII, FXV, FXVI do suck still. I know people want to feel special and be trendy and pretend some bad games are somehow underappreciated when no. They still are what they are. |
We have totally different accounts of the past. I don't remember the Dreamcast ever being the console to own after the PS2 launched. I don't remember Wind Waker ever being liked. It was mocked as being too kiddy. For not living up to OOT and MM. Same with Double Dash, Sunshine... same for the whole system. The Gamecube was considered lame and for little kids until suddenly, those kids grew up and reclaimed it as some sort of second coming.
And you can keep claiming FF16 sucks. Like I said, I've been around. I've seen this before. And hey, if we're both around in twenty more years, you can even continue to claim it sucks. Fine by me. But you're going to pissed off, because I promise you, it's going to get the revisionism treatment.

I don't need to remember, even though I have a photographic autism brain that allows me to remember what I was wearing on a certain day when I was 2. I also have an entire shelf of gaming magazines. Like now, I was on forums then. DC was liked; it's just that PS2 was on the horizon, and people held off. Wind Waker was mocked at Space World, but those who bought it generally liked it, and it got good reviews. Extended Play also liked it. The gaming show I watched back then. The kiddy thing is just the general fanboy online console wars bs from people who want to discount the other console. The word kiddy changed to casual when Wii came out. WW wasn't the general consensus. It was a loud, idiot fanboy minority who largely didn't play it.
FF fans have always been nutty. Always been pretending some lame entry is somehow some underappreciated classic. Like FFX-2. Mystic Quest now has fans. There's nothing new there. FTR, I don't hate the game. I did all the DLC, but it's not an RPG, and its combat is pathetic. Its writing is terrible. I don't like 15, but it's a better game as an RPG. I mean, it is still trying to be an RPG. The one thing I did like about FF16 is the Platinum Games-developed boss fights. Not the depth of a Bayo game, but the same spectacle. FF SOP is a better RPG and action game. So is Rebirth. Pissed off? Hardly. This has been the status quo for FF fans for a couple of decades.

Speaking of Dreamcast - never seen it or its games in the store (only ever saw Playstation, N64 and Game Boy lol) and I've only heard about the system on forums , several years after its demise lol
Looking at its library of games and controller, its more of a worse WiiU (in terms of popularity and value) than what people would consider a cult classic console like Xbox or Gamecube.

DC is better than Wii U. It has a great library of fighting games and shmups and games in general. One of the best launch lineups in console history was considered that then and many years after. It's much more loved than Wii U. One of the best systems ever often on ranking lists, despite its short lifespan of 3 years. Not to mention, its hardware was used in NAOMI, and how many amazing games came out of that. DC was well ahead of its time in many concepts. It had an online focus. First console MMO. Used a windows Kernal to make porting PC games easier. DC had better-looking versions of arcade games like Soul Calibur. First console with a webcam. DC is still widely beloved and still getting new games to this very day from fans. Its last official game was released in 2007. DC was everywhere in stores. I could not go into a mall without 9.9.99 at 199 posters on Software ETC, Babbages, and such. Had a lot of hype behind it. Out of the gate it broke sales records but as PS2 hype started to rise and so did SEGA's financial problems. Sales bottomed out. That said, fans have Dreamcast game online servers up and running right now.

I love final fantasy, the first rpg i ever played was a ff game. But like many here the series has drifted too far from its rpg roots and feels like a different series then what it once was. I have yet to play COE33 but I hope it outsells FF16 because maybe just maybe it will have a positive impact on FF17

People are catching up in game progression and the hype has started on social media, the further into the game you get the better it gets even in the graphics. It's like a Naughty Dog game in where the bad stuff falls away and quality keeps increasing but the story beats here are also getting bonkers good and like high art. The discourse around this game over the next week will bring many, many more in the coming weekend. I feel like I have a drug addiction, all I wanna do get back to this game, I can't stop thinking about it. If only just to level and practice my parrying, jumps and R2 counters. This game is going to snowball, I'm sure of it.
This is also one of the best story games onto of it being a masterpiece to play and almost flawless.
