Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo reveals Switch 2 price in Brazil - More expensive than the PS5

Nintendo revealed today the suggested price for the Nintendo Switch 2 here in Brazil. The system will launch at June 5th (Same date as the rest of the world), and believe it or not, it's more expensive than the Playstation 5.

The company has suggested the price of R$ 4,499,99 for the base model, and R$ 4,799,99 for the Mario Kart World Bundle. Remember that the minimum wage in Brazil is R$ 1,518,00 per month.

Just to have an idea of how insane this price is, you can buy a Playstation 5 Slim in Brazil for something around R$ 3,500,00. Oh, and also, games like Mario Kart World may cost about R$ 499,90. Other titles like Donkey Kong Bananza will cost R$ 439,90.

Jeez, I thought Sweden's price was bad (we usually get it really bad because of taxes and stuff) but even here it just adds up to around $750 USD for the MK bundle... yours adds up to $840 USD, that's insane.

Obviously the average wage in Brazil is much much lower than Sweden's too so the actual different is much larger than that as well. I'd heard how bad the video game market prices can get for Brazil, but I didn't think it was this crazy...

I can only laugh about people crying over $450/500 price tag. And I thought my 4000 BRL prediction was pessimistic.

I'll help with the conversion 4500/4800 BRL are ~$ 750/800.
At least the software kinda match

~800 USD is kinda nuts, I was expecting it would be less than 4000 BRL

The real issue here is software prices. 500 BRL per game is really prohibitive

I'm wondering if it's worth to buy a console that I know can't afford more than 2 or 3 games a year

They even increased the prices for $70 games for no reason, a $70 TOTK costs BRL 400 here, but DK Bananza is BRL 440. Unbeliavable.

Honestly, who cares about Brazil? Only a "few million" people live there (pun intended). As long as Nintendo doesn't have an official subsidiary there who officially publishes Nintendo products and you have no proper tariff agreement in place between Brazil and Japan, it's what you get. Surely, Nintendo will not sell their products at a loss just that the "poor" Brazilians can afford their products. As long as Brazil is not stepping up their game, the situation for console gaming will never be better (outside of bootleg and black market products).

I still feel for you, my fellow Brazilian gaming friends but there's not much that can change the situation in the foreseeable future. Why you don't import the console, accessories and games directly from Japan, it's maybe cheaper

I would never buy a console here. All my systems I purchased in USA when I was travelling or asking for a friend to bring from there

As a Brasilian, I'll say these prices are insanely bad, somehow they're worse than my most pessimistic expectations. But the real issue are the games. The console itself is pricey but at the very least you know you'll get your money's worth out of the quality o fthe hardware and software, but let's say you don't want to pull a Jack Sparrow and decide to buy like a game every two months or something along these lines, you're gonna have a hard time. I'll definitely wait for Christmas or maybe even next year. There's still plenty of games I want to play on my Switch anyway.

The console price is terrible but at least I know it's going to drop over time. It happened with all models of the Switch and the PS5.

The real issue is the games prices. These won't drop as much.

Honestly all I wanted was the $70 -> BRL400, $80 -> BRL450 to remain but no, they're pratically selling MKW for $90 here. Insane.
