Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can Nintendo turn Switch 2's pricing disaster around? And how?

$70.00 for recycled cardboard fine. $80.00 for game too much.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

It isn't exactly the most difficult situation for them to fix. They just have to, you know. Drop the prices.

Will they? No.

I actually have little issue with the console price... I would have actually been happy to have paid more... I.E. An extra $50 or $100 for an OLED panel.

The game prices are garbage, considering the mess of standards.
I.E.
* Some carts don't contain the game, just a license key to a download.
* Some carts are just the Switch 1 version with a Switch 2 update code.
* Some carts will only contain part of the game, with the other part being a download.

I'll only be buying games that actually contain the game on the physical media in it's entirety... And due to price, only games that are exclusive to the console.

The console hardware price is likely fixed... With a little bit of room to move to account for fluctuation in commodity component prices like NAND and RAM. - And with the Americans and their stupid game of Tariffs, the price is likely to increase for that region, with the rest of the world having a lower price for the short term.

However... Nintendo does have room to maneuver with revisions.

They could release a 5" or 6" variant at a lower price that is mobile only.
They could release a Switch 2 TV which has zero mobile functionality at a significantly lower price.
They could release an 8" OLED variant at a higher price.

This would have actually been the ideal tactic of releasing multiple variants for multiple price points right out of the gate... Which is something Microsoft did extremely well with the Series S and Series X launching in tandem.

Case in point: 450 USD = 640 CAD (both before taxes)... so the Switch 2 is even a bit cheaper in Canada than in the US.

Well it sure isn't cheaper for us.

Did you seriously expect them to give us a discount when they've always matched the US currency here ?

Like I'm sorry this isn't the best of outcome we're getting here but it's just the economic reality  we're in. At least they haven't spoke on the software pricing yet, even though I can already conclude DK Bananza will be set at 99CAD and standalone MK World at like 110CAD ...

Here I thought TOTK was pushing it, back two years ago. Now it's gonna feel more than alright

No, but I didn't like how someone said Switch 2 is cheaper in Canada when it's not cheaper for Canadian customers.

Only cheaper by 7 dollars. I don't think it's worth the hassle if he wants to come here and get one lol

He'd have a really hard time getting back across the boarder.

You have to pull back and view what is happening on a macro level.

When Switch was revealed, everyone was glowing, gushing, head-over-heels in love with the thing, similar to Wii. It was the console you had to have, and you had to actually try and find negative press/opinions because it was so universally accepted.

That is not so with Switch 2. All you're seeing is negative feedback. It's one bad thing after another... and that is never a good thing.

As I've said before, Nintendo already had their hands full due to the Switch being a cross-over, culturally-important device because usually, the follow up to those consoles fail. And that was made even more dire by the fact that they pretty much just designed a Switch Pro and called it Switch 2 (too similar). Now, they've decided to stick a price-tag on the system and games that people are unhappy about and well... it's going to be interesting.

That's not what I remember. The original Switch had a similar amount of backlash regarding it's price. $300 console with no-pack in, paid online, $50 tech demo, expensive accessories "underpowered hardware" many people predicted another Wii U from it. But as we know that didn't happen.

Switch 2 hands on impressions are very positive. People like the hardware and games, and even the price of the console is reasonable for what you're getting. The problem really is just some of the games, and the fact that Nintendo has really bungled their communication on that front.

The Switch critics were small in number and in the minority. The Switch 2 critics are everywhere, and it's almost all you're hearing.

Sure, Jack. Easy to say that in hindsight. The complaining on internet maybe loud but not represents the entire market, not even a decimal. You'll get that on the second time

Either you weren't there back then or the memory function of your brain is severely damaged.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.
