I will keep my Switch. I will be more likely to take it outside and on the road for portable gaming now that the Switch 2 is a thing.

I regret getting rid of most of my old consoles. I don't think I will get rid of them going forward.

I'll be keeping it.
I always hang on to my old consoles; I still have my SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, etc.
Never know when I'll feel like firing it up for old times sake, as I doubt playing the games on Switch 2 would evoke the same feeling.
There's also software I still plan to play on Switch 1 like Eternal Life of Goldman and Prodeus: The Elder Veil.

Ah that's decent enough if they are doing free upgrades also, I was under the impression they were charging 20 euro for upgrades.

Ps5 upgrades for me were mostly free apart from Death Steanding, Ghost of Tsushima and GT7 which I have no intent on playing again at any rate. I got like 25 free upgrades, some with really significant changes like TW3 and Cyberpunk.

There's only 5 known games that require payment as of now.

About double of that is free including Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and Super Mario Odyssey

Pokemon may finally look and play like a Switch game. Only costs the price of a new system.

Backwards compatibility is the biggest decider for me on whether or not I'll keep a previous gen console. Thankfully, I've confirmed my entire Switch library is back compat, so my Switch 1 will be traded in.

Are physical games BC without upgrade fee? As in can you run the Switch version on Switch 2, or does it have to be upgraded / downloaded ?

Is it like PS4 games on PS5 (upgrade optional), or like 360 games on XOne? (but with added fee)

Ahh found some answers

Most should be able to run from cartridge directly through emulation, but I guess no benefits then. Like PS4 (Pro enhanced) games on PS5.
They must do some upscaling then to the 1080p screen, or can they run in TV mode (boosted mode) on Switch 2?

Just more questions lol.

Some games will get a free improvement. Probably just more stable performance, or resolution bumped to full 1080p on both tv and handheld.

All games will work for free regardless, other than the cardboard one.

They could've just had no upgrade packs and people probably wouldn't care that much. They've essentially done the exact same thing Sony did with PS5. No one really paid attention to it then. Imagine if they didn't have upgrade packs and still sold Switch 2 Editions for full price...

I can't part with my Switch 1.

When I got the oled version I gave the old model to my brother and his two kids. When (if) I upgrade to the Switch 2 model I will probably do something similar. But most of my family with interest in gaming already got a one.

I have my launch model and the Zelda TOTK OLED one for backup. I have over 200 games for it, so Ill keep them just in case.

Whether or not, I part with my Switch 1 depends on the backward compatibility of my Switch 1 library on Switch 2.

I'll keep it. The only console I ever gave up was the Atari 2600. I left it at my dads and I think my little brothers got it (or it is stashed in the attic). I will likely unhook the Switch and the 2 will get it's spot on my HDMI switch Ironically already input 2 (my PS5 has port 5).
