Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 pre orders in USA & Canada delayed while Nintendo assesses new tariffs.

Only 469 euro here. One single joy con is 50 and a right and left are at 90. I very much expect the game prices to be between 80 and 90 euro.

That's already been confirmed to be the case lol. Although with the term "variable pricing" being mentioned by Nintendo PR, I'm sure it'll only be Nintendo's biggest hitters that will be priced that high.

The amount of content in Donkey Kong Bananza will give us a good guage. If it feels comparable but not quite Mario Odyssey level of content, then I'd say you're right. If it turns out to be a shorter early generation type game priced that high, then it could be worse than people hope.

I believe Nintendo should know what the value of their games are. They wouldn't want to take the risk of pricing certain games out of the viable range people are willing to pay. It should only be the absolute biggest series-- Mario 3D, mainline Zelda, Smash etc. --that get put at $80. High quality but more niche exclusives like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem should be $70 at most. Pokemon which sells a lot, I'm not sure it could justify $80 to it's audience with the quality Game Freak have shown.

80 USD per game is close to 500 BRL in local currency. The odds of Switch 2 being successful in Brazil are 0. On Playstation and Xbox we can leverage high software prices to discounts after a few years, or simply subscribe to service (Game Pass and PS Online prices are adjusted to local currency, so we don't pay as much as Americans)

With Nintendo there is no such options, so the games are simply cost prohibitive

I can see Nintendo exiting our market again, sad life

I think we may see $499 base system and a $529 Mario Bundle.

Remember Nintendo has insane software profits that will comfortably combat Selling the S2 at a $50 loss in the US if it came to that. Their investors won't like it but the company will be fine.

Fuck the investors. They're a bunch of suits who couldn't relate to gamers even if they tried.

That's wild. 90 dollar equivalent for a digital code of a game, 100 dollars physical. Ultimate editions could easily be 150 euro now and that's just digital extras. The industry is so fooked.

They'll be failing in many markets, Canada and Australia too. It'll be like Xbox in Japan in some companies, they'll be there for some reason but they won't sell.

Fooked by America's incompetence when it comes to electing presidents these days.

Tariffs are now in effect so anything imported from today in preparation for the Switch 2 launch will be costing them.

Tariffs on China have now increased to 104% and China has retaliated with 84% tariffs.

Nintendo has moved a lot of their production to Vietnam, according to this article from last month Vietnam accounted for 60% of Nintendo's hardware shipments to the US. But that still leaves the other 40% coming from other countries. I doubt Nintendo has completely exited Chinese manufacturing yet.
