Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony and Xbox are also upping games to 79,99 euro.

I will...

Not buy games above 70 euro 18 62.07%

Buy games at 80 to 90 or above 7 24.14%

Don't buy games at all 4 13.79%

Total:29

People are completely missing that PS and Xbox games are dropping their 2025 digital games at 79,99 euro as standard on PS store and started dropping these prices before Switch 2. No backlash cause it's a silent increase.

I predict that canibalize and hurt themselves as well as other big AAA publishers at these prices, when AAA devs follow there will be big winners but even bigger loosers and there will be more Concord level disasters than ever. For single players games there will be many that won't return their budget and these failures will be blamed on player interest while the industry pillars collapse. There is only so much money that can be pulled, I think the line is being crossed for the majority of people.

The cost of living is too high for luxury products to be so damn expensive. Gamers who'd buy two games a month. Well now they become one game a month gamers, or one game every 6 week or possibly gamers who buy on sale and wait back from day one. They are turning the most impulse buy, no thought just take my money level consumer in the avergae gamer and turning them into savy vonsumers who research and know where their money deserves to go and that's not something they can get back for a human generation or two with a boom economy.

I urge anyone to follow me on the 6-9 month lag. It's a fantastic way to game and hou get better products than through launch 1.0 versions, often fixed broken games and all for near half the price of day one gaming, the only thing missed is the midnight release and being in the conversation about the game.

I don't see the industry collapsing (I hope) but I see many big massive gargantuan failures of epic proportions as impulse buying becomes a thing of the past. The industry has now pushed casual gamers into researching games pre sale and that's gonna dry up a lot of money. The economy and tarrifs mixed with these increases are not going to go well for publisher or consumer... maybe a crash.

They've been €79.99 since the same time they went up to $70 I believe. There was a huge backlash at the time.

PS games have been €80/£70/$70 euros from the time the gen started, Sony did that and took a big backlash due to it. Nintendo are adding another fiver.

2K will add another.

Hmm, pie.

But not upping games to $80, 90EUR or £75.

I don't think anyone missed the price increase to $70 when it happened. Where were you? Lol. There were many "arrogant Sony is back" posts online.

You must be new to the internet then, when 2K, Sony and others did it, it was arrogant for them.

But now it is cool to do it ?

Maybe they will all finally thoroughly test their games before release again, probably wishful thinking. Simply unacceptable to keep raising prices but quality just gets worse and games more buggy. I really enjoyed the Switch 2 direct but seeing them charge for the tech demo which was basically free on Wii with Wii Sports, PS5 with Astro Bot and I think PS Vita had something similar to introduce players to the hardware features and then those ridiculous game prices, it's left a sour taste unfortunately. Breath of the Wild came out 8 years ago and it still costs the same price as it did in 2017, Nintendo games don't get cheaper. This is wrong even if the games release in a perfect state which we know they won't.

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Difference between Microsoft/Sony and Nintendo is... Microsoft/Sony games get discounted pretty rapidly.
Nintendo games don't.

Prices stayed the same here in Europe apart from a few select releases which tried to push but they are now doing it in masse. Death Stranding 2 at 80 with a slew of Xbox games and others following. There could be 90 euro games yet but blu Rays are much cheaper than carts.

People haven't missed this, they just selectively forgot to engage in some Switch 2 bashing.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Should have listened to Sony and got a second job. The difference with Xbox digital games is you can get codes offline that can significantly lower the price and combined with Game Pass .. Xbox is definitely the cheapest place to play period. I imagine NS2 will introduce some iteration of the voucher system so that’ll be a saving along will being able to find game codes discounted. On PS5… you can easily find PSN credit for a discount. Don’t give in to the immediate FOMO. There’s cheaper solutions for digital games if you spend 5 minutes looking. Paying full price is a fools game.
