Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch 2 Game Prices. Will it change how you purchase games?

What effect will the price of Physical Switch 2 games have on you?

I was already primarily d... 14 25.93%

I will switch from physic... 4 7.41%

I will keep buying physic... 22 40.74%

With these game prices I ... 14 25.93%

Total:54

The direct was great!
But...with the cost of the console, the BS hey are doing with game prices/ games might be just a key I'll be waiting. The only thing shown in the direct I need right away was Duskbloods with everything else either being in active dev or not worth it (for me) day one. The third party stuff I'll be getting on different platforms.

I was going to buy a Switch 2 this year but from what was shown and the prices, I'll be waiting until Duskbloods.

Switch has some nice RPGs that has had me sometimes waver in getting one. However, I never liked the price premium of it being handheld when I was only ever going to use it docked thinking that a pure console version might be cheaper. It is now 2025 with Switch 2 being $450. My calculus has changed, though I still would only ever use it docked, I am considering a Switch 2 slightly more than I ever did Switch 1, for these reasons.

1. Backwards compatible, so all older RPGs exclusive to Switch 1 and all newer RPGs exclusive to Switch 2 will be available to me.
2. Future proof for me. I am still gaming at 1080p both console and PC. Someday I will find a relatively cheep 1440p 32inch TV and cheep 1440p 22 inch monitors.
3. $450 is honestly not that expensive an option for the power Switch 2 offers, imo being somewhere between PS4 Pro and PS5. PS5 is $500.

Might still wait until after all this tariff nonsense is gone.

32inch is computer monitor size. I'm not sure they even make tvs that small anymore but even for a PC monitor if you're going that size you would want 4k.

While 1440p is the current standard for PC, if you want to upgrade your tv you should really be looking at a full 4k. I'm pretty sure they hardly make 1440p tvs now.

Of course if you don't want to spend much you can just get a cheap 27inch 1440p 120/144hz PC monitor and it would cover both your needs for gaming at least.

I do not have room for a bigger tv and I have no use for larger than a 22 inch monitor because I use 3 of them on my limited desk space, one of them is vertical.

If Mario Kart is $80 digitally and physically, I might have to get the $500 Switch 2 bundle. Then again, it might be too hard to find.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

A lot of people are forgetting that Nintendo used to offer 5% back in gold coins when you bought a digital copy. Meanwhile a physical copy got you 1% back in gold coins. So digital Switch games were cheaper than physical on launch day. That 5% back is now gone. But Nintendo still wants to make digital games cheaper. Hence the supposed 12% price hike for physical games? I don't know. Too much misinformation and speculation going around.

This is going to end in disaster, with the tarrifs and everything that's going on upping game prices right now is the worst thing yhe industry could possibly do. People are already passing on massive feanchises that should be selling, this is just going to further divide who gets the sales and there are going to be big winners and massive loosers. A bigger loss than a gain, this will cause.

I'll wait for discounts.

That's something Nintendo is really known for. The price drops will be normal prices now.

They won't be the normal prices if the games don't sell as well as Nintendo expects or wants them to.

Oh....oh no. $80 for Kirby and Mario Party?!? Nintendo gonna lose the plot soon!
