I feel like most launch games start out on previous hardware, at least in today’s day and age where game development can take 5+ years.

Certainly most in todays climate, but it's nice to have at least one. PS5 had Demon Souls, even though it is a remake it is still one of the best looking games on the console. And then launch window may be pushing it but it then had Ratchet & Clank. Hope Nintendo pulls something out before years over. Maybe Kirby is that game

Golden Eye started as SNES game before moving to the N64, Star Fox Adventures and Resident Evil 0 started as N64 games before moving to the Gamecube.  It's always been this way.

90 on meta, looks like it already has the vast majority of its reviews in too. So not quite mainline Mario level, but not far off either. Especially considering a lot of people turned up their nose at this when it was announced and acted like it would be B tier Nintendo

Turned up their nose at Donkey Kong Bananza? Who's that thick headed?

Of course it's different if all the assets are remade from scratch for the porter platform.

Just got my copy home and played through the first hour!

So far it's really good; for me the mark of a great platformer is that it feels good to control, and DK absolutely does here. Smashing everything to bits feels really satisfying, and he moves with just the right amount of weight and momentum.

Will play more tonight after work and post thoughts.

So is this the thread to talk about the game when it comes out? Because I'm pouring every second I have into this. Loved Odyssey. This looks

amazing as well.

Yep, this is the place!

If the game keeps this level of quality going it will easily be my game of the year.

Holy fu***** hell

Spoiler!
I just got spoiled that King K. Rool is the final boss and not Void Kong. It seems there's a whole entire layer which showcases his original Kremling Krew. I'm losing my fucking mind.

Turns out that much like both Mario Kart World and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, DK Bananza also started development as a Switch 1 game.

They moved to Switch 2 in 2021, which allowed for more extensive destructibility, more detail, and 60fps.

I feel a lot of people were justified in saying that early Switch 2 games look cross gen... Of course totally fine but it's disappointing there isn't yet a first party launch window game built to really showcase the graphical prowess. I'm a sucker for Nintendo demonstrating visual leaps in their IPs, it takes me back to first seeing Luigus Mansion, Metroid and Zelda on the GameCube. The power leap the Switch 2 provides can absolutely give that feeling... Once again hoping that the next Zelda is 30fps

It's sorta similar to Wii/Wii U/Switch 1 where early first party titles were either technically conservative or rooted in older hardware, and it wasn't til Metroid Prime 3/Mario Kart 8/Mario Odyssey respectively that a real first party showcase arrived.

Given what the system has shown itself capable of with Cyberpunk, there's a lot of untapped potential for first party software for sure; maybe Kirby Air Riders will be built from the ground up and stretch the system's legs a bit.

I'm only about 30 minutes in and I'm already having a blast!

Man, it seems to be such a great game. But 70-80 euros is way too much. I'll wait for a discount.

The first area was good. Nice well designed intro.

Then I got to the first proper world and the training wheels came off. It stepped up from good to great.

Then I got my first Bananza power, and holy shit this is my GOTY so far by a mile. Pure gaming magic.

Had to stop myself from just playing and playing as I don't want it to be over too quickly. Haven't had this much fun with a game in ages.
