Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Donkey Kong Bananza, a new 3D DK game, releases on Switch 2 July 17th

I'm interested in this game.
I really, really wanted 3D Mario. But I can wait until 2026 or later. I don't think 3D Mario is still coming this year because it probably would've been the closer, not DK.
DK fans, you've earned this. You haven't had a new game in 11 years.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Definitely! And it seems like it's coming from the Mario Odyssey team with how clearly influential that game is on Bananza from the boss enemy design, color palette, and landscapes. Everyone thought it was Odyssey 2 until DK showed up lol.

Fans of Kirby, Metroid, Xenoblade, Mario RPGs/Platformers/Sports/Party games, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Splatoon, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple others, REALLY got to eat during the Switch generation, while us Donkey Kong fans had a couple of old ports. One of which was just 2 months ago at the very end of the Switch's life lol. Utterly fantastic games, but ones that we've played before many times over.

Now, not only is DK getting a new game, but now he's getting the Odyssey/Breath of the Wild treatment of Nintendo's main team working on it and giving him a huge AAA game! One of which we haven't seen since 1999.

Here's to hoping the Switch 2 era will bring more new IPs as well as reviving dormant ones.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

About to take a look at the Treehouse footage of the game to see how it goes in actual gameplay flow ...

I still think a new 3D Mario could be their big holiday release.

Edit :

Yup this is done by the Odyssey team, so many of UI elements being extremely similar to the ones in Odyssey clues to that conclusion.

Anyway, this is clearly a next gen Switch 2 game from the get-go. Everything is just much more detailed, with better geometry, lighting and particles effect used.

No real way to mistake it with a game like Odyssey now.

Like Odyssey as well as Breath of the Wild, this DK game is having some experimental aspects to it. Primarily with destructible environments. It almost looks like you can destroy entire levels lol

I mean Pokemon is likely there as the big holiday game but usually Nintendo would another one of those their own for good measure.

Which is likely where Metroid Prime 4 is being slotted in. September or October most likely.

I do think we're getting more info in a Direct for new games this summer, after the console's release, for clarity on the fall-holiday period.

This is the DK game I've been waiting for since DK64. I'm really tired of this franchise being relegated to throwback sidescroller games. This series deserved to come back to the forefront of platformer design. What made DKC great was it was the most advanced platformer of its time. So, IMO, this game is decades overdue.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

That is likely, and they'll probably announce it sometime after this game has had a chance to shine.

I KNOW!!!!! It should be worth it.

Like a lot of people already said. It looks like a crossover between Zelda and Mario Odyssey, but with Donkey Kong. It doesn't look like a DK world. Not really hyped about this game. But if it turns out to be really fun to play, I'll happily change my mind.
