SquEnix have a very odd way of handling it's games in what it does with remakes, remasters or celebrations. FF6 needs a remake (same gameplay not of that action bullcrap) but what is considered the best FF game by many just gets the 'pixel' collection? FF13 trilogy is still locked to 7th gen. FF9 gets a celebration page, FF8 gets nothing. Even back when, FF3 and 4 got DS remakes but not 2 or 5?

Anyway, on topic. I'm hesitant over what they show if it is a remake because of FF7Rs. And while I know it will never be in the scope of that (the cartoony aesthetic would be ill-suited for that kind of graphics) if they add action to it, It's just another attempt at ruining their franchise.

I'd want to see a modern interpretation which remains faithful. That means they should feel free to add and take away B-side content but the core story beats should all be the same. I'd love to see a return of fixed camera angles whilst exploring behind the shoulders in moments where it'd add more to the immersion. Gameplay should remain turn-based but with some with more real-time input opportunities and some modern creative touches to make combat more strategic

Whatever it is, I'm in. FFIX the best FF

God, the industry is (mostly) out of ideas.

It is FF9 being remade but 10 is more popular and probs the second most popular offline FF game after VII... I'm sure 10 will get an official remake somewhere down line.

Oh I read it wrong. This is great news, another game I never finished but enjoyed the bit I did play. X will surely be after but a remake wouldn't feel much of an impact aside from random battles that game is still very playable graphics wise but it's very routed in early 2000s culture and you can feel that more than the campy world it's set in, if they do that game they nedd to revamp the style and I fear that they would use the original VA which is terrible. I want 13 with FF7 r combat.

Anyway, here's to hoping the 9 remake is one refined title that doesn't try and be a new game.
