The first Berserker Khazan demo got everything right, it was everything I needed in a combat system with parry mechanics and back and forth one on one exchanges I have come to love because of games like Sekiro, Stellar Blade and oddly Black Myth Wu Kong as a bit of an unsturdy example. Khazan was perfect apart from one thing, it has a stanima bar the depletes far too quickly and is tied to too much stuff for it to be that small, to get it larger you'd uave to play many hours into the game and avert points from a pure build no matter the weapon, from what I've seen of endgame and NG+ duel weilding which scales off of a stanima recovery stat the issue is better but isn't fixed nearly enough. You can stagger a boss or get a window to go all out and be left waiting for the bar to fill essentially ruining any potential flow state combat and extinguishing the most essential aspect of fast paced action combat and punishes you if that stanima bar isn't constantly on your mind cause if you parry too long of a combo you get staggered and the above for no reason but it wants to be categorised as a Souls game even though it clearly wants to be fast action like Stellar Blade.

I have one 2d game installed, Nine Sols that could substitute but it's mind boggling difficulty is a barrier for me atm and Prince of Persia The Lost crown is now free but I'm not feeling it, too flow and I need something 3D.

So, anyone got anything relatively new? Lets say around the 9th gen or cross gen. Any double A games slip past the last three or four years with exceedingly good combat and that is all I need, the rest of The game could be average and as long as it's not glaringly bad I'm good.

I'll list games that are excluded if they don't fit or I've already tried. The obvious.

Sekiro

Stellar Blade

Black Myth Wu Kong

Nioh series

Wu Long Fallen Dynasty

DMC5

Ghost of Tsushima

Monster Hunter games

Astral Chain.

Switch Friend Code : 3905-6122-2909

Soulstice is inspired by DMC but set in a world inspired by Claymore and Berserk. Stephanie Jooston voices both main characters. It's a great game!

Astral Chain. Platinum's Take on a Cyberpunk setting. Unique combat system not like Bayo. Tho much of the game is a love letter to everything PG made before it.

Hi-Fi Rush. Amazing game. Takes the familiar, stylish action game formula but adds the rythm mechanic which is great. You can mess with settings so you don't have to always be in rhythm. Charming as hell. Fun as hell. AMazing OST.

Evil West. It's more of a beat em up cross with a TPS. It's a great game that is a nod to the 360 era.

Ninja Gaiden II Black. One of the best in the genre. The remake is great.

Valkyrie Elysium. Fun combat. Bland story and presentation. While it's different than the Profile games it keeps one thing true. The real ending is hidden by finding all of a specific item.  It's an odd game but the combat is fun. Bosses are fun.

Lollipop Chainsaw. Written by James Gunn (GoTG movies) it's a goofy but fun action game. Over the top as all Grasshopper games are. It's the best Evil Dead game even tho not an ED game.

No More Heroes 1,2,3. A little jank but they have so much personality in characters and world. Combat isn't the most in depth but it is fun with wildy fun bosses.

Nice one. I wasn't expecting someone to come bavk with many answers let alone some I haven't heard of. I skimmed Valkerie elysium on sale a couple times. I'ma research that Soulstice which is completely new to me and Lolipop Chainsaw. I Like Astral chains combat but the core game couldn't hold me. Not sure I want the pain of Ninja Gaiden 2 again but I think the remake could be easier... maybe.

Played Armored Core 6 yet? The Ghostrunner games are pretty awesome as well but they’re in a first person perspective.

Space Marine 2 was also awesome!

I seen AC6 on sale, I'm definitely thinking about grabbing it this time but two of the games mentioned above are also on sale albiet less well received. I'm gonna have to sleep on this one, If only Rise of the Ronin was on sale, that would get rid of the itch.

And yup, got Space marine 2 on my wishlist, eying in but it's gonna need more than 50% considering it's short and I doubt I'd have any incentive to Platinum it.

I third Astral Chain

You ever play Scarlet Nexus? Great Combat and characters. Ok story(Play guy to get full story)

I know you're not going to play it since you've already written it off, but I'm about 30 hours into Dragon Age The Veilguard. Got it through PS+, took a few hours to get into it but now I'm really enjoying the exploration and combat. Characters are a bit weaker than past Dragon Age games, but not nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be.

Yeah, I can see that cranking the difficulty to max that that combat system would be pretty fun but the game attached to it is far to obnoxious. Inquisitions combat at max difficulty was a treat but not really the kind of combat i'm talking about in this thread, the kind of combat that is attached to more linear games and more action and reactionary than CD based. The type that gets you into a flow state and your hands automatically work instinctively when things get super tough and you're just kinda there to observe the mechanism and make sure thing remian calm and the plan and tactics are working or need to be changed.

Monster Hunter Wilds.

Try again, game is amazing.
