Forums - Gaming Discussion - We need more ________ type of games.

Which decade was better..

The 80's 1 5.26%

The 90's 16 84.21%

I love both of the above equally. 2 10.53%

Total:19

We need more peripheral-based games!

I just got the Sinden Light Gun and it's been awesome re-playing the likes of House of the Dead, Ocean Hunter, Lost World: Jurassic Park, Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, etc but there's so little in terms of modern games. House of the Dead Remake works, but that's only one game.

There's the party games like Buzz! that PlayStation has abandoned (the Buzzers are referenced in Astro Bot)
The absolutely ABSURD controller for Steel Battalion
Mics to talk to the game characters
Maracas in Samba di Amigo
The dance pad for Dance Dance Revolution
Fishing rod controller
Guitar Hero/Rock Band sets

The list goes on but who didn't love being able to have all these creative ways to interact with video games?

The 80's games were more creative. The 90's games were more realized.

We need more original fighting game IP's (2D and 3D). The entire genre is being held by IP's made 20+ years ago.

This, cant really think of any substantial new fighting IP.

I thought Blazblue would have fit but the series has been around for such a long time too.

3rth Person 3D MetroidVania's

Games where you need a progression item or ability to expand the explorable space within one connected world.
I would call Ocarina of Time a 3rth Person 3D MetroidVania with e.g. Link needing the Ocarina Songs to open up new area's like Zora's Domain, needing Epona to open up the Desert area, etc. New explorable area's as a reward for progressing in the game.

Rhythm games!!

Where is Rhythm Heaven for Switch?

I wanna see 80's games creativity realised in current times. Like is there any games that do that, I know many of the indies like Devolver digital stuff with games like The Messenger and what not as one but any triple A games or at least AA titles other than I listed in the OP that take that 80's feel, do it well and add modern twists on it...

We need more Suikoden-type games. Hands down.

Have you tried Eiyuden Hundred Heroes? Same people who made Suikoden.

I did it. I enjoyed it, it definitely scratched the itch for a while. But it does feel unpolished.

Not bad for a first entry, but plenty of room for improvement if they do a sequel.

The Suikoden I and II remasters presumably release next week, im looking forward to that.

I wish Konami made games again. Good ones. Not just remasters. Bring back the Konami chime of the SNES era. Make a bunch of fun new IPs like the SNES/Genesis era on top of making good ones on est IPs. Make Goemon again. Bring back Gradius. 2D Castlevania. (linear) They don't have to be AAA budgets. They can be a publisher closer to Marvelous. mid budget games.

The funny thing is, Konami is actually wealthier than ever. Their market cap sits at US $13B, which is third in Japan behind Nintendo ($90B) and Bandai Namco ($20B). Or fourth, if you count Sony. They do seem to be dipping their toes back into gaming somewhat, and I'd like to see them be good again. SH2 Remake was great, might give MGS Delta a shot since I never played the original. My favorite non-Nintendo games on N64 were Konami titles, loved them on NES and SNES, and Castlevania was good in the 2000s.
