Games where you need a progression item or ability to expand the explorable space within one connected world.
I would call Ocarina of Time a 3rth Person 3D MetroidVania with e.g. Link needing the Ocarina Songs to open up new area's like Zora's Domain, needing Epona to open up the Desert area, etc. New explorable area's as a reward for progressing in the game.
