Don't know how accessible it was to our European peers. It only released in Europe and Japan.

Never came to the USA, but it did intrigue me back in the day especially the 64DD version.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

I'd honestly like a port or remake of that game to try it out. It got rave reviews back in the day.

Maybe Switch 2 will be like GameCube and have it least two M-rated Nintendo games.

GameCube had Eternal Darkness and Geist, Switch has Emio.

Bayonetta 2, 3, and Conker don't really count. They were published by Nintendo, but Nintendo doesn't own the IPs. But I guess in all fairness Eternal Darkness and Geist weren't developed in-house.

I'm kind of on the edge with the remake. It definitely would deserve a Switch/Switch 2 port, but considering how they cut the edge on many games with remakes, I'm not sure if I'd want to see one. When I bought the game back in  the day, I thought I'd try it out as there was nothing interesting at the moment. Didn't look good for a Gamecube game, but it was a pleasant surprise after all.

Resident Evil 1 Remake. I didn't play many games on the GameCube, but this game was phenomenal and I don't care that it's "just a remake".

If remakes don't count, then Resident Evil 4.

Technically... it's a remake. But it is the most impressive and astounding remake I and many ever seen, just 6 years after the original. it was so impressive, is almost like a new game. Those graphics were crazy in 2002.

A bigger generational jump visually than PS2 to PS5 lol. It was unbelievably good looking (on a CRT) and well made, I played it in 2004~ and couldn't believe what I was looking at... constant but subtle shiver from beginning to end. The train section in RE Zero was also insane, but the game overall wasn't close to this level.

Easily the best remake and my favorite horror game of all time. It's a real shame that many unique sub-genres/styles like this had to die. Modern RE games including RE4 are nothing like the classics.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.  It's the best Fire Emblem I've played, and it's the only GameCube game that I felt made the purchase of a GameCube worthwhile.

Considering its low sales, it's awesome that you got to play it and make the Cube worthwhile.

I really want it ported or remade faithfully on Switch 2. That would be easier than GameCube. I've never played it.

I expect one of the features of Switch 2 will be GameCube games added to Nintendo Online.

Actually even thinking of selling off some of my GameCube games that see no game time before the value loss of having them playable on the subscription service. Fire Emblem Path of radiance is still going for quite a lot.

Good question! The Gamecube generation really was the first gen when games felt modern and generally could compete with today’s titles.

A few games come to mind:

- Resident Evil Remake
- Resident Evil 4
- Pikmin 1 (+ maybe 2)
- Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
- Super Mario Sunshine

What these games have in common is their gameplay, which still feels modern, and their replay value. Also, their atmosphere! I think atmosphere is a very important gameplay aspect that is often overlooked: How does a game make you feel while playing it? For example, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom may share an overworld map but the atmosphere in BotW is way better than in TotK because the latter gives you so many, often silly, means of traversal while BotW is a lot slower and thus lets you explore the map and soak in the environment.

As for the games mentioned:

RE Remake is a game I can’t get enough of and that beats out most modern Resident Evil games for me. The setting is amazing, I love the atmosphere and music. Just beat it again a few months ago on Xbox Series S.

Resident Evil 4 is still better than RE4 Remake in my opinion. The remake is great but the gameplay in RE4 (especially on the Wii!) is so arcadey and fast.

Pikmin is just infinitely replayable for me, as well. Every other year or so I beat it. It’s fun to collect ship parts in a different order and beat your own high score. It’s also fun to watch for my wife who loves the series. And its atmosphere is very serene at times.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is peak Sega, quick to learn but hard to master. And the Chao Garden is very addictive.

Super Mario Sunshine is often criticized, but I love Isle Delfino. Every other year or so I feel the urge to go back to Sunshine. It’s like a virtual vacation. I know about its flaws but I’d rather chill at the beach than walk Bob Omb Battlefield. And Mario’s movement is the best of any 3D Mario in my opinion.
